My TED talk: "It Hasn't Always Been a Man's World"

Here is my TED talk, "It Hasn't Always Been a Man's World", which I gave at TEDxSacramento's event, "This Changes Everything: Women". It's about how I overcame gender-based violence by embarking on a decade-long journey researching and writing my novel, The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice, about the origins of "honor killing". Offers an uplifting message about gender inequality!

Former Egyptian 1st Lady Jehan Sadat wrote me a letter!

What it said: "It warms my heart to see young people I have known succeeding at what they love to do. And for you, I think it has always been writing, telling a story that will make a difference in the lives of others. I am happy to influence you in some way as you travel along this path. I am also happy to pass the torch of leadership in women's affairs to young women such as you. The struggle continues. We must never rest on our laurels. I wish you much success with this book and hope you have many more to come."

I'm not sure which I'm more excited about -- receiving the torch of leadership from her or being called a young woman!!!

Happy 1st Birthday to Seven Perfumes!

It's International Women's Day and that means it's my novel's birthday! Since it was published last year, Seven Perfumes has had quite a ride! Some of the highlights include:

The killer Kirkus review: “From the first page, Logan’s thrilling debut novel is an intelligent, intricately layered adventure.”

Being acknowledged by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World 2005, author of The Caged Virgin and Infidel, courageous promoter of women’s rights in the Muslim world said: “I am grateful to people like Amy Logan who use their skills to draw attention to the miserable position of women living in the Honor Killing Zone. Her book, The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice, contributes to that ongoing challenge to expose the culture and the complex context in which this abuse takes place.”

Former Egyptian First Lady Jehan Sadat, whom I interviewed at age 17 for my college newspaper, requested a copy of my novel!

My novel is being translated into Hindi! Soon the people of India will be able to read Seven Perfumes in their own language!

The estimable Publisher’s Weekly review: “this thought-provoking tale is part women’s history, part armchair adventure, and an eye-opening investigation of an often hidden world.”

The most incredible article I could have imagined written up in The Huffington Post by MeiMei Fox (author of Bend, Not Break): “Casual beach reading it was not. More like a gripping John Grisham murder mystery page-turner meets Sophie's World history lesson, all while delivering an Oprah-style ‘power to womenkind’ inspirational message.”

My partnership with The Global Fund for Women, who will be receiving 10% of my book’s net proceeds!

67 five-star reviews on Amazon! “Gripping and enlightening.” ... “If you read no other book this year, this one is a must.” ... “Captivating and transformational.” ... “I was often moved to tears.” ... “It is hard to believe this is Amy Logan's first book.” ... “An important new voice emerges.” ... “A huge literary achievement.” ... “An exciting story, intriguing and memorable characters, powerful message, richly detailed investigation of a decidedly foreign culture, two love stories and a very surprising ending…seamlessly woven into a totally enjoyable and beautifully crafted first novel.” ... “Subversive.” ... “I’m forever changed.” ... “This is a book to get for your book club!”

The great Dallas Morning News review: “Un-put-downable”!

Being invited to speak publicly about my book and ending honor violence.

Seven Perfumes enjoyed #2 status in the Suspense category on Amazon as ranked by customer review for a while; it has settled down at #31 out of 242, 335!

Receiving the respect of the wonderful novelist of women’s rights in the Arab world Jean Sasson when she said: “I have been hoping for that one great book on honor killings, the book that will make a difference and will bring change. I believe The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice is that book.”

Several inquiries about film rights for Seven Perfumes!

I feel so incredibly blessed by all of this...thank you for buying my novel, standing up and speaking out against violence in all its forms, and encouraging me to keep writing. I will!

Kudos from Ayaan Hirsi Ali for Seven Perfumes!

I am so honored to receive these encouraging words:

5-star review from author of The Girl God

Trista Hendron, author of The Girl God (http://www.thegirlgod.com), wrote me a beautiful review on Amazon today, and hopefully soon here on Goodreads. Here's an excerpt:

"...this book touched me in a way that few ever have....The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice is an exceptional read, but more importantly, it is a critical book for all women to reunite them to their power."

For the whole review, please visit: http://amzn.to/Xgnbar

The Girl God is a gorgeous illustrated book for children that adults will also love. If you liked my novel, you'll probably enjoy The Girl God too!

Thank you, Trista!
