Melyssa was born and raised on the southern edge of Lake Ontario in the Western New York town of Sodus. She began voraciously reading (her mother’s exact words) at the age of four as an escape from watching apple trees grow, and hasn’t stopped yet.

A trip to the town library always followed the Saturday Morning Bowling League, and Melyssa went home each week with as many books as the librarian and her parents allowed. The day she wandered out of the children’s section and into the regular fiction has been permanently etched in her mind by the searing strands of Thread falling from the sky and the Dragons who flew to fight them. With the realization that imagination is limitless, she has since been fascinated with Fantasy and Science Fiction.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Frank Herbert
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune
