hello

hi everyone,

just some stream of consciousness. do others of you that write feel pressure to produce niche pieces? is genre the death of literature, at least, in some ways? i think it's a question worth asking, since many members of the literary world seem obsessed with labeling their books in one way or another for the purpose of marketing them successfully. does this make us sell-outs at all, or just realistic business people? most of us got into writing because we love it, there are things that are much more lucrative, if not practical. Responses are most welcome by anyone who might read this. could the opposite be true? could labeling a novel as simply "fiction" or "middle grade attract a broader audience than a more specific genre? what do you guys think?
