Book-Signings Can be Humbling
The first book-signing I did was at a benefit for a horse rescue organization, and many horse-loving folks bought my book and talked to me about their equine pals. I was a total success. Wowee, Book-signings are fun!
The second book-signing I did was also a reading event, taking place at a local library. I practiced my exerpts, made and posted my flyers, used my social media, bought my sharpie pens and my pretzels and cider for the party after my performance. I was so ready!
On that bright mild day in early March, I set up in the auditorium. I decided to work close, no podium, just chairs in a circle around the author. The clientele– two kids– came in, swiped the snacks and scuttled out before I could say a word. Nobody else appeared.
This is how things can go for smalltime authors. Laugh it off! I think from now on, I'll do classrooms, book clubs, and parties, where people show up and are a captive audience!
