In America, your dog eats it. In Europe, people eat it. I have eaten it. How could I, you say? Because I have been to a European horse fair.
My friend Suzanne and I visited the fair when we were both performing music in Brussels. It was a devastating experience to see a whole square full of hurt, lame, crazy, blind horses. I have to tell you that death would be a mercy to most of them.
So, I figure, it is a good thing to keep the demand for horse meat high. I believe it prevents people from just working horses into their graves even if they are injured, to get the last drop of value out of them. That's more cruel than a quick death, it seems to me.
So I ate a "Steak Cheval." once.
