I read a beautiful article in the New York Times Magazine a few months ago. It looked at autistic kids and their trained companion dogs, with whom they freely communicate. It got me thinking again about all the service animals- Library dogs, nursing home dogs and cats, riding therapy horses and ponies, and the many pets that kids and the disabled or frail elderly consider to be their best friends. Some pet therapist's words ring in my head "When a person strokes a pet, hisher brain goes into alpha state– and so does the brain of the pet!"
I have no pets, I developed severe allergies to birds and mammals. I miss them terribly. But I do have grandchildren. Pat your grandchild today!
