Metamorphosis

Hope you’re having a great weekend. Thought I’d drop by as it’s been a while. You know the drill, life, work, so on and so forth.

It’s great to be back with some fantastic news. I have a new release announcement to make.

I was invited to be a part of a collective of 19 writers, for a brand new anthology put together by the brilliant team of  Nick Burgoyne and Naomi Greensmith of Indie Fantasy Corner.

Here is the amazing cover, courtesy of the super talented Nick Burgoyne.

The Anthology entitled – Metamorphosis, will be available on Kindle and paperback via Amazon from October 15th. You can pre-order the Kindle version now.

Currently No1 in its genre on Amazon for new releases! Which is really exciting!

All profits made from the sale of the anthology will be donated to Write the World, an international charity supporting young people with their writing pursuits.

So, here’s the blurb –

A monster lurking in a cave awaits a hero. The past is revisited. A dark underworld is explored to escape oppression. A child is waiting to be born. A person finds that things around them are not quite what they first seem. The world rebirths anew.

Metamorphosis means lots of things to many people, and what you hold in your hands is a collaborative dream, woven together by writers and artists with a shared love of storytelling. Through these stories, we hope you find your own sense of metamorphosis.

And here’s the rest of the talented writing cast.

MY SKETCHES: GOLDFINCH

Here’s the second post in a new series of short reels to showcase my sketches.

So, this is my depiction of a goldfinch. A once frequent visitor to my garden that would feed from wild teasels and thistles.

This is a species that is doing really well with around 1.7 million breeding pairs in the UK. Good to hear that they are on the Green List, most likely due to more and more people putting out Niger seed in feeders for them in their gardens.

Did you know that the collective noun for a goldfinch is a charm. Pantheon, drum, troubling or chirm, are also considered as other group names for goldfinch.

LAUNCH DELAYED: PICASSO AT WORK

As my 10 week summer of full time writing comes to a close, it’s time for me to get back to working in sport, and the excitement of another new season.

So, things on the writing front will of course slow down a little, but I will continue to work in the evenings and at weekends on edits and content.

Whilst I have never used A.I in the writing of my books, and find the notion that people do, abhorrent, I have used it in book covers and marketing posts, as many of you know.

However, I have made the decision to dump all the A.I elements in my book covers and marketing, due to the impact that A.I is having on many people, especially friends of mine in the creative industries.

So, I’ll be busy behind the scenes, making all the necessary changes over the next month, creating new covers and content. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the right decision for me to make this change.

This will of course affect the release of The Crow Stones, which I am hoping to now launch in the Autumn in late October.

I will also have some exciting news on the release of The Sleigh Maker before the end of 2025, but for now, there is work to be done.

MY SKETCHES: HOUSE SPARROW

Here’s the first post in a new series of short reels to showcase my sketches, just a hobby, but such a great way to chill out and clear the mind, so I can get a little respite from the stories that are constantly smashing away at my brain.

So, this is my depiction of a House Sparrow, a frequent visitor to my garden over the years, but alas is now on the Red List after numbers have declined by about 60% over the last 20-30 years, which is a bit shit isn’t it.

Did you know that the collective noun for a sparrow is a Host, although, Flock, Chattering and Quarrel are other group names for sparrows. If you didn’t know that, don’t worry, it’s not a test or anything…it’s just a mildly interesting fact. Nothing more, nothing less.

To give that context, ever since I learned that the term for a group of Ferrets was called a Business, I’ve been slightly obsessed with collective nouns. I mean, a business of ferrets, it just sets off a thousand images of a ferret universe where they all go to work in tailored suits, brief cases and umbrellas, and travel on the tube reading the Daily Mustela or something like that…I also imagine that they’d be in constant conflict with the Pole Cats across town, but that’s another story.

Anyway, here’s that sparrow I keep promising. Please click on the link below –

I hope you enjoy this short video reel and the sketch.

A Business of Ferrets, honestly it’s just utterly magnificent!

THE CROW STONES: CRYSTALS & DEITIES

Here’s a mockup movie-style poster to tease the launch date, featuring a picture that Lydia finds on the back wall of her local pub, The Weird Sisters.

The image depicts 10 Crystals, among them, Carnelian, Lopis Lazuli & Tiger’s Eye, which each play a major role in the story.

Wiccan stones and crystals are formidable tools which witches use to enhance their powers and their craft, and they can also be used to place powerful hexes.

Hecate & Pan, as mentioned in the poster, are heavily associated with the Wiccan faith, and are deities from Greek mythology. Hecate, a powerful goddess associated with magic and the night and Pan a rustic god of the wild and music.

Rumour has it that they may pull out of directing the movie, citing artistic differences…
