Not to write is to wrong!

After years of bashing my head off a brick keyboard, Firedance Books rescued me by publishing my work.

I found myself in a gang of great writers who were all keen to help each other get published.
After a whirl of editing and mutual cooperation, one has a drool-worthy agent, one has an Ms with a superb publisher and three of us are already published.
For any would-be authors out there - this is the way to go ahead - a book is a team effort.
If you go through agents and publishers they will ask for numerous changes and strengthen your work as a result. If you intend to be self-published, make sure you have a gang of good quality editors - they will help you no end.

Interesting research in the Netherlands - do something differently.
Their test was to make a person make a sandwich upside-down. Somehow weird activity overcomes blocks. I've only used it where I think a scene is weak. Anything works - walking upstairs backwards - anything provided you've never done it before (and it won't kill you etc). Also there is another angle to research on creative thinking. I focusses on an unconscious process that occurs after a person has given up on a problem. Some hours after this an area in the back of the brain - not far from the occipital region but may be a part of it - heats up. Around fifteen minutes later the solution to the problem comes into the frontal lobe as a 'next stage' to look at but more frequently as a solution. (less)

The Perfect Pirate

When little children overcome terror their faces can still register it. Claire’s eyes and mouth were as round as can be the first time she descended the slide. Once I’d attached my hose to the top and placed her paddling pool under the bottom the afternoon flew by.

Claire became a pirate and, bless her, decided that she wanted to walk the plank (slide), into the sea (pool) and among the sharks (var Read more of this blog post »
