Deeba Salim Irfan has been writing since childhood, ever since she had to leave her parents who were in Iran, to live with her grand parents back in India. This partition from her parents was a gift of Iranian revolution. Angst, agony & anger vented through words took shape of poems and prose that she kept well hidden in her drawers until much later.

Deeba’s 3 books have already been published internationally in the last 8 years. Her first novel, URMA, was published in 2012. The translation in Urdu followed and so did the nomination for an award by Urdu Press Club. Next, a collection of poetry was published in 2016, CHARCOAL BLUSH and was a finalist at the Book Excellence Awards in Canada. A few of her poems have been translated into other l

Dear Cynthia,
Sorry for a rather late reply! To answer your question, I was a teenager at that time and from that perspective I found post-revolution to be quite restrictive as opposed to pre-revolution. I wouldn't like to comment much on the policies as I am not the right person to do so. I am sure they had a valid reason for what they did. As an outsider and a non-Iranian I couldn't agree with the reasons for revolution, I felt bad for Iran and its people! I love and miss the Iran that was! That's why I wrote! I went back to Iran in 2005 and I think things have changed for the better, from immediate post revolution, but still a long way to reach what it was just prior to the revolution!! (less)

Just Another Hazy Day

There are days when I walk around in daze. Things get done. But my heart is not in it. There is a haze in my eyes. The alphabets glide and trickle down my brows and into my eyes and roll down my cheeks.
What is it that drives me into that state? Well, I think, when I put off writing a bit too long and the thoughts crowd my mind. When the tussle in my mind is: weather to give the next two hours to m Read more of this blog post »
