Look at settings around you and start describing them in word, then see where they take you. When I started Loon Child, I was taking an online course at Barnes and Noble. My lesson that week was to look at my surroundings and start describing them so I did. I was at a family cabin in the Hayward area and started describing the moon's reflection on the lake, soon I was adding a fisherman and then a loon. The story quickly formed but I knew it was really in a rough form so I looked for help. I took a class at The Loft which helped give me guidance but my story was missing structure. I was fortunate to find an online teacher named Steve Alcorn who knew how to take an author step by step. There are many writing teachers out there and know you can find one that can understand your writing style and will help you develop yours.(less)
