Susan M. Boyer is the author of fifteen novels, including multiple USA TODAY bestsellers.

Her debut novel, Lowcountry Boil, won the 2012 Agatha Award for Best First Novel and the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense. Subsequent books have earned nominations for the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Okra Picks, the Pat Conroy Beach Music Mystery Prize, and the Southern Book Prize in Mystery & Detective Fiction. Big Trouble on Sullivan's Island, the first novel in her Carolina Tales series, won the 2024 Independent Publisher Book Award silver medal in Southeast Regional Fiction and was a 2024 National Indie Excellence Award finalist.

On Gale Warnings, Getaway Deals, and Hard Candy Christmas

Sugar and I have spent the last two weeks at the beach, and I wish I could tell you it was all sunrises and sea breezes. The plan was to spend last weekend at the Little River Shrimp Festival signing books and hugging necks. Then the rain set in, and it was not the on-again-off-again drizzle variety. We had pouring, sideways rain, a gale warning, and surf the color of dishwater. We stayed indoors
