“Put men in charge and watch them strut and show off like peacocks, making grand gestures with gunpowder and power. Put the women in charge and watch how small, organized acts of collaboration can have just as large of an impact.”
Julie Gerstenblatt, Daughters of Nantucket

“This is life we are speaking of, not a poem by Tennyson, and not one of Grimm's fables. Life is dangerous and - as we have just witnessed - it can change in an instant. An existence in which a true, real person simply cannot have it all. And a woman perhaps least of all.”
Julie Gerstenblatt, Daughters of Nantucket

“Letter-writing is an art form everywhere in the world, but particularly on Nantucket, where sons and mothers, fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, separated by oceans, rely on pen and paper to keep their bonds alive.”
Julie Gerstenblatt, Daughters of Nantucket
