This answer requires no contemplating or wondering. There's no hesitation. It would definitely be The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I have envisioned that garden since I first heard the story read aloud by my sixth-grade teacher. I can see the walls, the gate, the rusty key, the budding shrubs, draping vines, colors of flowers, and the birds. I can smell the rich soil and know how it feels to my touch. I can hear the bird calls.

So... I would love to time-travel to Misselthwaite Manor, and visit the secret garden there.

That book changed my life. It was at that moment I received the revelation of how words had the power to affect the emotions.

I could not have articulated that at the time; but in retrospect, that's exactly when I was smitten with the longing to write.

Am so thankful for my grade-school teachers who read fiction books aloud to us every morning. What a lovely education for a budding novelist. (Who didn't even know she was "budding." smile)(less)

Always a constant supply of fiction. Usually YA fiction because that's my genre. Non-fiction will depend on what I'm researching at the time for a new novel.

Reading is vital, crucial, and essential, for my creative bent to remain consistently in top order.

Have to add -- reading is never a chore for me. It's not something I HAVE to do. It's what I get to do. It's what I LOVE to do. (less)
