kate white and her book cover for i came back for you

IT’S GETTING CLOSER!

I never like to wish time away, but I can’t help feeling excited that the March 1 release of my next (and 19th!) psychological thriller, I CAME BACK FOR YOU, is finally (sort of) in sight.

Before long I’ll be sharing updates in my newsletter—and on my website—about launch events and appearances. I really hope you’ll be able to join me for at least one of them.

I’ve loved writing each of my novels, but I CAME BACK FOR YOU was an especially moving and deeply satisfying experi...

IS YOUR AUTUMN OFF TO A GOOD START SO FAR?

I hope so! Mine seemed to kick off faster than I could blink. I’d no sooner returned to New York City after Labor Day Weekend when I was packing for New Orleans and the 2025 Bouchercon Mystery Conference. I would have liked to have stretched out my summer a bit longer (you too?), but the conference turned out to be a very rewarding experience. I participated in a panel discussion about crafting characters with murderous intensions, which was fun in its...

THE TWO THINGS THAT JUST MADE MY DAY

In my July newsletter I gave you an advanced peek at the cover of my next suspense novel, I CAME BACK FOR YOU (Thomas & Mercer), due out this January. Your response was terrific, and I was thrilled to learn you liked the stunning cover as much as I do.

Now I’m thrilled to share the first two author blurbs the book has received.

I Came Back for You is an elegant and gripping whodunnit, as much as it is a moving deep-dive into love, grief, and a mother’s sea...

YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHO CAME TO DINNER

If you’ve subscribed to this newsletter for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about the annual ThrillerFest Conference in New York City, sponsored by International Thriller Writers, a terrific organization for suspense authors.

This year’s conference was held last month at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel (where the amazing final scene of Michael Clayton was filmed), and it was such a rewarding experience for me. I attended a bunch of panels, participa...

SO GOOD TO BE HOME!

As much as I enjoy living in Uruguay in the winter (when it’s summertime there), I also love coming home to the U.S. in April. It means not only having the chance to see my kids (though they do like to come to Uruguay for visits) but also getting back into the wonderful rhythm of New York City and catching up with the fantastic tribe of people I’ve come to know as a mystery and thriller author. People in this world are—overall—so interesting, smart, fun, and generous. And gu...

I CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE THE COVER OF MY NEXT SUSPENSE NOVEL WITH YOU

That’s a bit of a tease because I don’t have the cover for I CAME BACK FOR YOU (January) yet, but I will soon, and I’ll be sure to reveal it immediately. I’m really excited about this book, and I hope you will be, too. The story, once it came to me, was so compelling to be involved with every day, and at moments it almost felt like the book was writing itself.

Also, I set the first six chapters in Uruguay, and it was very inspir...

Happy Spring to You!

April is always a bittersweet time of the year for me. It’s when we head back to the U.S. from our winter home in Uruguay, and it’s a little sad to leave a country of lovely people, beautiful vistas, breathtaking sunsets, and 80° days. Plus, because Uruguay is so tranquil, it’s easy for me to get a lot of writing done here (except, of course, when we’re traveling as we did this year to a stunning wildlife preserve in northern Argentina, staying at the lovely Rincon del Soco...

February ’25 News

HELLO FROM URUGUAY!As you may have heard me say by now, my husband and I spend our winters in a little beach town in Uruguay, where it’s summer from mid-December to mid-March, with most days in the 80’s. Though I’ve made plenty of time so far this year to see our friends here, I’ve mostly been using the past weeks, per usual, as a kind of writers’ retreat, working in my home office on the second floor of the house. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to create, with just the sound of the wind i...

A BELATED HAPPY NEW YEAR!Right now, as always in January and for the rest of the winter, I’m at our home in Uruguay. I love our time here in general, but what makes it especially gratifying for me is that I can write without a lot of interruptions (except for the monk parakeets chattering outside my window). And as I’ve mentioned before, I like writing in the heat, though I have no clue why. Any guesses?

I hope your year is off to a promising start and that you have some nice plans ahead. Wha...

HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!I hope your current to-do list isn’t trying to eat you alive, and that despite the craziness of the season, you’re managing to find some pockets of delicious, relaxing quiet.

I’ve had a super busy autumn with lots of travel for both business and pleasure—to London, Portland ME, Charleston, Antigua, and also to Sarasota, Florida to accept the awesome 2024 Trailblazer Award from SRQ Media. Though travel can be disruptive, I discovered long ago that I enjoy writing during ...
