Mary Biddinger is a poet and flash fiction writer who lives in Akron, Ohio. Her novella-in-flash, The Girl with the Black Lipstick, is forthcoming from Black Lawrence Press in July 2025. She is co-editor, with Julie Brooks Barbour, of A Mollusk Without a Shell: Essays on Self-Care for Writers (University of Akron Press, 2024). Biddinger has been the recipient of Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and the 2019 Mid-Career Cleveland Arts Prize in literature. She teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Akron and in the NEOMFA program.

New prose poem + July launch gratitude

It’s always a scary little thrill when a poem from a new project drops, so imagine my scare + thrill when Pithead Chapel (one of my favorite journals) published “Everyone Bowed Their Head and Prayed for God’s Blessing” in their latest issue (vol. 14, issue 8, August 2025). This prose poem is from my manuscript in progress, Latchkey. Thanks for taking a look!

Mary I love her! Those books just suck me in like no others. I remember reading Kitchen in its entirety one day when I was in Toronto--I just couldn't help myself.
