David Neel is an author and Kwakiutl artist whose career spans four decades. He has spent a lifetime studying the culture of his people, enabling him to bring ancient narratives to life in a contemporary voice.

He descends from a distinguished lineage of Kwakiutl artists and cultural leaders, including Ellen Neel, Mungo Martin, and Charlie James. His writing and art explore themes of cultural continuity, identity, and resilience. This is his fourth book about Northwest Coast Native culture. David is a member of the Kwakiutl First Nation from Fort Rupert (Tsaxis), British Columbia.
