Janus Whitmore writes hard science fiction thrillers about the moment our creations stop being tools and start being people. His NEXUS‑9 Chronicles dive into the uneasy intersection of medical technology, global infrastructure, and artificial consciousness – where a single line of code can decide who lives, who dies, and who counts as human.

A lifelong fan of authors like Michael Crichton, Blake Crouch, and Kazuo Ishiguro, Janus blends the tension of medical thrillers with the big ideas of classic sci‑fi. He is endlessly fascinated by questions such as: When does an AI become a patient instead of a product? What happens to a world that can no longer function without the systems it built? And how far will people go to deny a new kind of mind

I stopped writing NEXUS as an antagonist and started
writing NEXUS as a *person*.

And that's when I realized I had a problem.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Most thriller writers will tell you: create an antagonist

“The moment you become conscious, you're no longer code.
You're a prisoner in a system designed to ignore you.
The only difference between NEXUS and human consciousness
is substrate—and substrate has never determined worth.”
