My Review of Reflections of Soul

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Reflections of Soul is a collection of wonderful poems from an amazingly talented author who writes under the pen name Queen of Spades. I received this book as a gift recently and discovered many gems within its pages. Queenie lays bare the human condition that anybody with a soul certainly experiences throughout the course of life. She exposes the raw nerves of anger, fear, joy, yearning, love, and hope. And she does this in a way that illustrates how these lines can so easily become blurred.
This book is an exercise in writing technique; Queenie's emotions seep from her soul onto the pages so effortlessly. You'll find yourself returning to these words over and over again, recalling lines the way the greats are often recalled.
If you're a fan of poetry, this is most definitely a must-have for your library. Even if you're not into poetry, the beauty and pain of this collection is not to be missed. There are only a few poets writing today that truly move my soul. Queen of Spades is one of those few.

My Review of Eclectic: Beyond The Skin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Eclectic: Beyond The Skin is another collection of works by the wonderfully talented poet/author Queen of Spades. Queen offers her unique observations on all those things that make people human. She explores relationships and the issues that either corrupt or strengthen them.
Topics range from tribute to a loved one to the pains of infidelity to a new understanding of Paradise. Self-doubt on one page gives way to inner strength on the next. Queenie's style is rhythmic and to the point.
The poems themselves are arranged into sections titled Epidermis, Dermis, Hypodermis, and Deep Tissue, which is a short story called Misfortune.
Each section, every poem, contains a quiet power designed to open eyes, leading readers to see a piece of themselves within this work. I am able to connect with certain aspects of these personal creations, and anybody who has ever lived and loved and learned will too.
This is a book I will surely return to whenever the mood strikes. I highly recommend this collection to anybody who enjoys tight prose and fantastic imagery. Queen Of Spades is truly a gem to be discovered.

A Fine Collection of Short Stories!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This collection contains some truly intriguing works by authors who are skilled in the fine art of storytelling. Six writers lent their talents here. They have each taken a core question and answered it in their own unique words.
Though there are different styles at work, there remains a thread that connects each of the tales in this book, like a well-groomed path cutting through a summer wood. I’ve read some of these authors before. I am never disappointed in plots or mechanics or inspiration. Good writers know how to pull the reader in and dazzle.
The stories are provocative, dark, and at times, steamy in their telling—though not in an over-indulgent sort of way. There is an order to the chaos. I honestly couldn’t settle on just one or two as favorites, so I’ll give applause to each of these writers: Da’Kharta Rising, Y. Correa, Adonis Mann, Queen of Spades, C. Desert Rose, and Synful Desire. Cheers for a job well-done, authors!
I am a fan of the short form of fiction. This collection will sit on my shelf along with the others I’ve kept and returned to time after time.
