It seems like such a long time since I had a book out (although it was just two years ago(). New publisher, new series, can't wait! The book is A Baby's Bones and is out on the 1st May 2018. Like my other books it has a spooky, supernatural edge but is a crime story. Who would dump a baby in a well? Who is stalking the archaeologists?

Sage Westfield is a joy to write about. She's opinionated and curious and not easily spooked. But the discovery of the bones of a baby and a woman in a Tudor well are not just sad, they seem to haunt the house beside the well. Things start to go bump in the night...

Back in 1580, the manor waits for the birth of a child, although the previous babies all died. Estate steward Vincent Garland oversees the betrothal of Viola to a man twice her age, an alchemist. A terrible crime is brewing.

I've been away from the blog - in fact I've left the publishing world behind me for three months. I think before I got a book deal and The Secrets of Life and Death was published, I thought that getting published was incredibly important. But then something happened to remind me that family are even more important. (I've blogged about it here: http://witchwayblogspotcom.blogspot.c... .)Life has slowly started to get back to normal, and the focus is back on my characters as I edit the sequel, The Secrets of Blood and Bone, and write the last few chapters of book 3. I've slowly fallen back in love with my characters, having left them hanging by a thread, and the urge to get all this writing out of the way so I can support my husband through radiotherapy has driven me back to the keyboard. But I am enjoying helping Jack and Sadie on their long journeys through semi-death, even though it feels a bit close to home now cancer has joined us around our table.

The Secrets of Life and Death is selling to publishers overseas - the US, Finland and Germany. This is so exciting, I can't wait to see what they do with the covers etc. and love the idea that my characters might appeal to people of different cultures, with different mythologies. I'm also enjoying reviews, because it's good to see how people react to different characters, and they sometimes see things that I didn't that deepen the character for me. As I'm about to edit book 2 and finish book 3, this is helpful!

Well, I'm an actual author! The book is out and hopefully people will like it. It feels weird that characters that seem so real to me are out there in the world without me. I'm never convinced I did them justice, but hopefully they will engage readers like they did me. Happy birthday, Jack, Sadie, Felix and Kelley!
