Eric Michael Craig is a "harder-edged" Science Fiction writer living in the Manzano Mountains of New Mexico. He is the former Director of Research for a private consulting laboratory in Phoenix, where he experimented with inertial propulsion and power generation technologies.

Eric is a founding member of the SciFi Roundtable. The SFRT is an active online group dedicated to supporting indie and traditional authors by networking them with other writers and professional resources.

Do you feel your books have a message for the people of today regarding how to deal with governments and the politics of the present?

I don’t believe that governments are necessarily evil constructions of society in-and-of-themselves (although there certainly have been, and are now, cases where that might be debatable), but I do think that the highway to hell is paved with good intentions. In Stormhaven Rising I bluntly deal with a government (several in fact) that is trying to do the right thing, but going about it all wrong. It is not that they are inept at all, but rather they look at the world from the perspective of power and responsibility, and not necessity. And that perspective is not always a valid approach to interpreting the rights and needs of those they govern.

The question is, can we trust a government that does not trust us?

I think I address that pretty accurately in my books.

There are certainly as…moreI think most people would consider the Atlas series as apocalyptic, but honestly I don't think it fits cleanly into that genre. There are certainly aspects of it that are very "doomsday oriented," but ultimately it is a story about how hope keeps humanity moving forward, as we dance to avoid the apocalypse. To me the story is more about the political traps that our complacency allows us to overlook as we stumble toward the future.(less)
