David N. Hackney, MD is a practicing maternal-fetal medicine specialist and Professor of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. As the ACOG Section Chair for Ohio during the Dobbs decision, he was an early witness to the structural chaos unleashed on patients and physicians by the abortion bans. His commentary has been featured across multiple years in The New York Times, HealthAffairs, MedPage Today, Doximity and STAT Health.

Continuing the short blog of influences for “Impossible Choices”: “No Mas Bebes” is a documentary directed by Renee Tajima-Peña and broadcast on PBS in 2016. It explores, and humanizes, the sterilizations at the center of the Madrigal v. Quilligan legal case, in which 10 Latina patients asserted they were sterilized against their consent at USC Medical Center in the 1970s.
