Wings of Marsia: The Girl Who Escaped by M. G. Nelson is a sweeping, emotionally gripping coming-of-age novel that traces one girl’s extraordinary journey from a remote village shaped by deep-rooted cultural traditions to the vast and uncertain promise of London.

Marsia’s life begins in fragility, born in a mud hut under the dim glow of an oil lamp, balanced between life and death. Her grandmother, Mira, becomes her anchor, a woman of quiet strength, spiritual depth, and cultural wisdom who shapes Marsia’s earliest understanding of identity, belonging, and resilience.

When Mira dies, Marsia’s world fractures. A vivid dream, believed to be a message from beyond, leads her to Kigali, where she encounters education, hope, and the first glimpse of a different future. But that future is threatened when she is pulled back toward an arranged marriage that would silence her voice and define her life for her. Refusing to surrender her dreams, Marsia makes a life-altering decision: she escapes.

What follows is a powerful migration story marked by danger, betrayal, unexpected kindness, and the fragile, growing strength within her. Alone and vulnerable, Marsia must rely on a resilience she has only just begun to discover. When her journey finally brings her to London, she faces the most profound question of all: is she building a new life, or still running from the past?

Tender, harrowing, and ultimately triumphant, Wings of Marsia explores survival, identity, displacement, female empowerment, emotional healing, and the enduring power of love and forgiveness. This first instalment begins a deeply human transformation from vulnerability to self-determination, setting the stage for a story that unfolds across a powerful and unforgettable series.

The Wings of Marsia series includes: Book 1: The Girl Who Escaped Book 2: The Cost of Freedom Book 3: The Tapestry of Her Life Book 4: Stolen Moments and a Companion Book: The Lock She Placed
