I got up early full of promise and energy. My goal for today is 2000 words. I sit down at my desktop computer and open my draft manuscript ready to let the words fly. My fingers are poised above the keyboard. Then nothing! My mind has gone blank, my muse apparently on vacation having failed to even given me notice. Darn, I say. I try to force a few sentences but the next scene just doesn't have a direction.

I decide maybe some social media posts will get the creative juices flowing, something about your fingers clicking on the keyboard starts ideas into motion - right? Half an hour later I'm looking at an empty chapter fifteen and my mind is still saying "duh...."

Oh, I know what I need, I say to myself. The antidote is - coffee! I go to the kitchen and pour a cup of Colombian brew - strong and black because obviously today the extra strength dosage is required. Surely now I can settle to the task.

Well, it didn't work either. Maybe, I'll just go for a walk. Better yet, some therapeutic shopping is order. The truth is that sometimes, a writer just has to wait it out. Putting too much pressure on yourself will get you nowhere.
