Book 2 Coming February 17

It's been just over 2 weeks since The Keeper of the Veil launched, and I'm still processing how incredibly you've all shown up for this story.
A 4.59 rating on Goodreads. The reviews have been great, but the personal connections and stories about how much you liked the book have been the highlight for me. I am so appreciative of you all!

This is my debut novel. I spent 25 years in aerospace before I decided to write about an immortal warrior that has been in my head since I was a kid. I am so glad people have liked him and story.

So, here's what's next: The Fracture of the Veil drops February 17, 2026. It just went up on Amazon for preorder.

Book 2 takes James and crew on a global adventure. New villains, new characters, heists, and more baggage. LOTS of baggage. Oh yeah, and a love interest for James.

The anchor points holding the Veil are failing across continents. James isn't just defending one town anymore. He's part of a coordinated response to events that span centuries of planning.

The stakes are higher. The team is bigger. And if you thought Book 1 left scars, Book 2 doesn't let anyone walk away clean.

If you've already read Book 1, thank you. If you've left a review, double thank you. If you haven't read it yet but you're curious, it's still there waiting. And if Book 2 sounds like your kind of chaos, you can add it to your Want to Read shelf right now.

I'm now starting on Book 3. James Crable has a lot more battles ahead of him, and I'm grateful you're all willing to follow him into them.

See you February 17.

Thank You!

Readers

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has supported The Keeper of the Veil since launch. The response over the past few days has honestly been overwhelming in the best possible way.

Thanks to early readers, the book launched into the top 15 New Releases in two of my three primary Amazon categories, reached the top 25 in Contemporary Fantasy (which is ultra-competitive), and is currently sitting in the top 100 for Historical Fantasy overall. For a debut indie novel, that kind of start is more than I ever hoped for.

On Goodreads alone, more than 4,100 readers have marked the book as Want to Read, and early reviews have been thoughtful, detailed, and incredibly generous. To those of you who have already taken the time to rate or review the book here, please know how much I appreciate it. Those early reviews create real momentum and help new readers feel confident giving a debut author a chance.

If you have already left a review on Goodreads and also feel inclined to leave one on Amazon, I would be truly grateful. Reviews on Amazon during the first days after launch help indie authors reach new readers and keep a book visible. There is absolutely no expectation, but every review makes a difference.

Whether you have reviewed, are still reading, or simply added the book to your list, thank you for being part of this journey. I am incredibly grateful for the support, and I am excited to continue the story with Book Two later this spring.

Thank you for reading,
Jack Calder

Launch Day!!

Today's the day. The Keeper of the Veil is officially live.

This has been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful to everyone who helped get it here, especially the early readers who took a chance on a debut author. Your reviews, encouragement, and honest feedback shaped this book in ways I couldn't have anticipated.

As of this morning, more than 2,700 readers have added the book to their Want to Read shelves, and the early reviews have been thoughtful and generous. For an indie author, that kind of momentum is everything.

For those just discovering the book: The Keeper of the Veil follows James Crable, an immortal Saxon warrior protecting suburban Ohio from the things that slip through reality's cracks. It's urban fantasy with historical flashbacks, found family, and a mathematical magic system that (hopefully) makes the impossible feel plausible.

Bonus for launch readers: Chapter 1 of Book 2 is included at the end.

Book Two of The Veil Saga is already in progress for a late March/early April release, and I'm excited to continue this journey.

If you're ready to dive in, the book is available now on Amazon (ebook $0.99 through Jan 20, paperback, hardcover, and Kindle Unlimited): https://a.co/d/eZhKers

Thank you for being here and for supporting indie authors. Let's see where this adventure goes.

One Week to Go (No Pressure, Right?)

In one week, The Keeper of the Veil officially launches.

Which means that very soon, this book will no longer live safely on my hard drive, my Kindle, and in the heads of my very patient early readers.

Terrifying. Exciting. Mostly exciting. (I think.)

Before launch day arrives, I wanted to pause and say thank you, because this book absolutely did not get here on its own.

To my ARC readers who bravely volunteered to read an unreleased novel by a new author.

To everyone who left early reviews, kind comments, or messages that made me do a little fist pump in my kitchen.

To those who entered the giveaway, added the book to their shelves, or quietly rooted for it from afar.

You made this whole thing feel real long before launch day.

Writing is usually a lonely process, just me, a keyboard, and an alarming number of coffee refills, and telling stories to my family, but releasing a book reminds you how much storytelling is a team sport. Seeing early reactions, thoughtful reviews, and genuine excitement has been incredibly humbling (and occasionally made my day in ways you’ll never know).

A Small Thank You

As a thank-you, and because launch week is basically the literary version of jumping out of a plane, The Keeper of the Veil will be $0.99 for the first week.

If you’ve already read it: thank you for being part of this adventure early.

If you’ve been waiting: this is your officially sanctioned excuse to jump in.

What Happens Next

Launch week is almost here, and I’m equal parts grateful, excited, and trying very hard not to refresh Goodreads every five minutes.

However the next chapter unfolds, I’ll always remember how supported this book was before it ever officially arrived.

Thank you for believing in this story.

Thank you for reading.

And thank you for helping The Keeper of the Veil escape my laptop and enter the world.

Two Weeks Until Launch

Hello!

I’m writing this from overseas, where part of The Keeper of the Veil takes place, and I still can’t quite believe that in exactly two weeks, January 13th, this book will be out in the world.

For those who don’t know me yet, I’m Jack Calder, a debut urban fantasy author who spent over 25 years in in corporate strategy and M&A before deciding to channel my midlife energy into writing.

The Keeper of the Veil follows James Crable, an immortal warrior who’s been protecting the Veil between worlds for nearly a thousand years. These days, he does it from suburban Ohio, which turns out to be a lot more complicated than medieval England ever was.

To My ARC Readers
I need to start by thanking the incredible readers who’ve already spent time with this book. Over a hundred of you requested advance copies, and watching your reviews come in has been one of the most surreal and humbling experiences of my life. Seeing a 4.62 rating as I write with phrases like “couldn’t put it down” and “finished it in one sitting” makes all those revision sessions worth it. You’ve given this debut author the gift of knowing the story works, and I’m deeply grateful.

What’s Happening on Launch Day
I’ll be doing a TikTok Live on January 13th to celebrate the launch. Come hang out, ask questions about the book, or just watch me try to contain my excitement while traveling. The link will be on my TikTok (@jack.calder.autho) and I’ll post reminders here.

The book launches simultaneously in ebook, paperback, and audiobook (narrated by the fantastic Glenn Boychuck), and it’s available in Kindle Unlimited from day one.

If You’re Just Discovering This Book
The Keeper of the Veil is the first book in The Veil Saga, and it’s built for readers who love urban fantasy with historical depth, immortal characters who’ve actually lived through history, and modern settings where supernatural threats hide in plain sight. If you’ve been looking for your next series to binge, I’ve got Book 2 coming in March and Book 3 later this year. You can add it to your Want to Read shelf now, and if you’re curious about what readers are saying, many early reviews are already up on the book’s page.

Two Weeks
I’m not going to lie, I’m nervous and excited in equal measure. Finding readers who connect with James’s story has been worth every revision, every late night, every moment of doubt.

Thanks for being part of this journey. See you on January 13th.
