I am happy to share the cover for Drawn to Death! Would you like to know some fun facts about the design?

Behind the scenes peek at cover design. I did a lot of market research about what type of design consumers expect in the Mystery Romance / Female Sleuth genre.
When I worked with my design team, here are the elements that needed to be included in the cover:

➡️ Bright and colorful backgrounds. Books in this genre “flag” customers using this element as if announcing, “Look here. This is a mysyery!”

➡️ A shadowy figure. The shadow shows readers that this book has a detective. In my case, I have a female shadow to show this book is told through the POV of a woman. I also have. a male POV and could’ve had a “shadow couple,” but I ultimately chose a single female shadow because of the comparable titles in the genre.

➡️ Note: Publishers use “shadows” instead of models when there are multiple books in the same series featuring the same person or people. Many use stock images and there are not enough poses of the same model for all the covers. Shadowy figures can be of different models, so it is easier to find images. plus, it looks a little ghostly for my paranormal aspect :)

➡️ A bold title. This is necessary because it is a series. I have 6 books planned for the Evelyn Sinclair series, Drawn to Death is book one, so I need to set the stage for future titles in the series. The backgrounds and colors will change, but the title font will be a consistent element in the design.

➡️ Why is the dominate color pink? Pink signals to the reader that the tone is not too dark. Yes. It is a murder mystery- but it is also a steamy hot romance. If readers are looking for a super scary book, they will know Drawn to Death is a bit lighter in tone than a hardcore serial killer book.

☑️ So… reader’s do judge a book by its cover. :) At least they should be able to know what the book they are going to read is about just by looking at it. If you found this post helpful, please share!
