Stiya Release Day!
It’s here, it’s here! It. Is. Here. Today’s the day, folks. Stiya, the greatest story ever told about bigfoot (so says my mom) is available RIGHT NOW on Amazon Kindle. So what are you waiting for? Head over and get that Sasquatch Snack for only $.99! Less than a cup of coffee! Here’s that link one. more. time. ********************************************************************* In the Blue Mountain Range of the Cascades there is a legend of a creature that walks on two legs. A creature that whistles. It visits at night, crying for salmon and carrying stacks of lumber on its back. The Cayuse tribe call it Stiya, but there are those with another name. Sasquatch. Erica Halladay cares nothing for ancient legends and Native American stories. Her interests are getting an A in Anthropology, gaining the respect of her enigmatic professor and running from a recent family trauma. Why else would she spend her summer in the Cascades, sorting through feces? But some legends are more than myth. Some stories never stop being told. Erica Halladay thought she was running from her problems, but when the cold moon passes over the tip of the Blue Mountains she’ll learn you can’t run from everything. Sometimes [...]

Stiya is Coming
In the Blue Mountain Range of the Cascades there is a legend of a creature that walks on two legs. A creature that whistles. It visits at night, crying for salmon and carrying stacks of lumber on its back. The Cayuse tribe call it Stiya, but there are those with another name. Sasquatch. I’m excited to announce that in just a few weeks my new short, “Stiya” is coming exclusively to a Kindle near you. The story follows the exploits of a plucky young anthropology student with a head for trouble and a heart full of adventure. Ooo boy. And if that bit of saccharine didn’t capture your attention, “Stiya” also includes the return of one of my favorite characters—Wentworth Atlee. Who the hell is that? I’m so happy you asked. As always, I’ll have some fun leading up to the release of “Stiya” including a cover reveal next week, and a FREE promotion of my novel, the Tenth Order. I’ll also be dressing up as Sasquatch and terrorizing prospective readers. At least two of those three things are true. In the meantime, I’ll just leave this here… ******************************************************** Image Credits: “Bigfoot” Creative Commons via duluoz cats

An Update on the Hidden Order
Hello, blog. *blows off dust* Let’s get right to it: where the hell is the Hidden Order? Okay, so a year ago I sat down to finish the sequel to my first novel, The Tenth Order. And at the time I was feeling pretty good about it. Why not? The first book was out, I was getting some nice reviews, I was already a quarter done with The Hidden Order—life was sweet. I set a tentative release date for April, 2014. Needless to say, that didn’t work out. So what happened? Eh, life mostly. Taking on too many projects, whisky calling my name doing a lot of mature, responsible grown-up stuff, etc. Short story, I’m still working on it. So when’s it dropping? What’s the update? Well, I could promise you April again, but we saw how that worked out last time. Let’s just say I’m going to get it out as soon as possible, and I promise it’ll be worth the wait. I’m really, really excited for you all to see what Hunter’s been up to since the events in The Tenth Order. In the meantime, I have some exciting news about a story coming out in the near future, [...]

Quotes..a plenty?
Eh, titles. So, if you follow me on Facebook (what’s that? you’d like a link? well, I could be talked into it…) then you already know I like to mess around with some straight-up quote madness. Sometimes they’re famous authors who inspire me, sometimes they’re Widhalm originals. And since this is my blog and all, I figured I’d share a few of my favorites in this space because no one can tell me not to. Or, at least I can ignore them when they do. So, let’s get this party started. I went on a bit of an editor thing, and this was one of my favorite quotes to come from it. A humble reminder that even gods can misuse “it’s.” Speaking of… Oh Lord, it’s so, so true. Either I have a good editor or I’m cutting too many onions, cause I, uh…weep. Sometimes. SHUT UP REAL MEN WEEP. More an observation than a quote. I think most writers will get what I’m talking about. And finally, my favorite of this last batch… I believe most things can be solved with a cup of coffee. Absolutely everything can be solved with two. So that’s it for now. Enjoy, spread them around, link, print [...]

We’re in This Together
I spent some time this morning reading Chuck Wendig’s post on NaNoWriMo, and wondering about meanies. Not Chuck Wendig–that guy is cool as aloe vera–but the general meanness of a world that couldn’t care less if you’re a writer. See, as Wendig points out (and I reluctantly agree), the world doesn’t give a tinker’s fart […]

Prepping Your First Draft, or What the Hell Have I Started?
National Novel Writing Month is just around the corner, and I can hear the Mr. Coffees warming up already. While friends are pulling out their turtlenecks and planning which version of Green Bean Casserole to serve at Turkey Day, I’m power-washing my keyboard. And I’m willing to bet you’re just like me. You’re a writer, and NaNoWriMo […]

9 Ways to Procrastinate Writing
I need to get 1000 words on paper today. I need to do it, I have a deadline. Readers are waiting, editors are getting impatient, my critique group is giving me the eye. I really don’t have to finish this GTAV mission… But I probably should. Really, how tough is writing? You sit down at […]

MileHighCon, You’re Up
Another quick update. I’m slaving away on the next 9 Things post (and by slaving away, I mean drinking Glenmorangie), but figured I’d take a break and give a shout out to my Colorado peeps. MileHighCon is this weekend, and shit is going to get weird. I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday, so if you’re […]
