When Darkness Comes

Good morning and Happy August to you,

January Bain here to share some exciting news about the first book in my new series: A Connor Hale Technothriller. For those who have read my Anna Hale, P.I. series, this is a spin-off that happens in the all-too-near future where AI has become sentient creating the catalyst for my story. 2055 to be exact!

I swear I was born to write post-apocalyptic survival fiction, strange as it may sound. I come from a long line of pioneer women who learned early on how to make the most of things. How to prepare food properly, from canning to storage, how to sew and make our own clothes. Grow our own food. Both sides of my family lived on farms years ago and knew about making ‘cream money’, bartered for what they needed, and helped out friends and family whenever they could. Solid. Trustworthy. Dependable and loyal to a fault.

I am proud to come from that lineage, only two generations removed from toiling the soil. The skills handed down have helped me live a better life, one where self-relance and living within your means was important.

Now, don’t take that to mean I didn’t go on and have an entirely different career trajectory than my ancestors. I was blessed with a good university education, became a teacher for a few years, painted wildlife portraits, before coming to my happy place, storytelling, as much as it makes me sweat blood and tears slaving over my WIPs at five a.m. in the morning, seven days a week! And do I have a lot of stories to tell!

I am grateful as well for landing right where I belong right now, having been embraced by the Wolfpack family of publishing.
Thank you, Mike Bray, for helping my dreams come true. And thank you, Rachel Del Grosso, and all the lovely staff at Rough Edges Press for all the things you do to make the journey so much easier and pleasurable. You guys are the best!

Happy reading,
January Bain
