We have a title!

...and with the title we put together a great cover. All that is missing is the contents of the book. LOL
Alex Manning is living a quiet life on the coast of Maine in 1917 when the ghosts of the past come knocking. His niece Emma has passed away and her children were delivered to him. There is plenty of room in the old family home that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Yet the old family secrets do not make this a child friendly home.
As the girls grow into young women Alex must choose between the best interests of Charlott, Pearl and Faye, and preserving his perceived family honor. His best intentions will come back to haunt him continually as each decision further complicates the lives of the girls. In the end they will all be held accountable for tragedies of the past and the misfortune to company.
I do not have a release date yet but the book will be coming in February 2013 to provide some relief for the mid-winter blues.

Good times to come!

I am very proud of The Ruth Chernock Series. It is historical fiction, set in my home State, Maine. There is romance and love along with betrayal and tragedy. The reviews have been amazing and I am certainly grateful for that. While writing this series I researched the information to keep it as historically accurate as possible.
As much as I love that series I had to end it with book four. My next book is moving along slowly. I didn't set a deadline for myself on this one because I want the flexibility to enjoy the holidays. But I am hoping to have it done and reading to release by February.
This next book is set in Maine in the 1920's. The central characters are three sisters and I anticipate a wild ride. After all it is the roaring 20s! Prohibition is the law of the land and the mob is getting rich from it. Fishing boats and rum-runners used the rocky coast of Maine to deliver illegal booze that would be transported around the country. Flappers dressed in their shockingly skimpy dresses and danced the night away in speak-easies. I'm excited about using this time period as the back drop for my story.
As yet I have no title. I am usually half-way into a story before I can come up with an appropriate title. If the characters take over as they normally do this one could be a fabulous page turner. Guess we'll know soon.

Good Stuff

Excerpt from 'Regarding Ruth'

“Ruth!”
“Yes, good Reverend?” she asked, looking up at him from the straw mattress on the cold stone floor.
“You have been judged guilty of your crimes and you shall be hung by your wretched neck until you are dead.”
“Have you no mercy for me Reverend Jensen?”
“Woman I have none. Pray God that He might find some before this week is done. I shall see you hung on Saturday next.”
“Peter Jensen are you so pure of heart that you might judge me?”
“You will not test me woman!”
With that Reverend Jensen slammed the cell door closed and with a tick of the key in the iron box he locked it securely. His retreating footsteps echoed through the long hall, ending as the heavy front door slammed behind him. She knew that he would not return again until Saturday, when he would watch, with satisfaction, as she swung from the gallows.

In 1764, beautiful, young, Ruth Chernock was hung from the gallows at East Grantham, Maine. More than 200 years later her family speculated regarding the fate of their ancestor. Could she really have been guilty of such heinous crimes?
After digging through the attic and historical records of the old family home, the truth is gradually uncovered. Shocking family secrets are disclosed and at last the family learns the truth of it all.
This is a remarkable story of love, tragedy, betrayal and murder. The four books of the Ruth Chernock Series follow the family through the decades and generations. An incredible tale you will never forget!
The following books in the series are In Ruth's Memory, On Grace's Shoulders and Pink Sky & Mourning are available on Kindle and in paperback on Amazon.com

Release of Book 4!!

The 4th book in my series, Pink Sky & Mourning came out today! I am incredibly excited about it. Having completed the series satisfactorily is a wonderful thing. I miss my characters already. There is a temptation to go sit down with book 1 and start reading them all over again. But there is another book full of characters asking for attention so I guess I'll move on from 18th & 19th century Maine into the 1920s.
My books are all available at more about my books
If you haven't read any of them yet I hope you will take a look. There is also a video at my video
Hope you enjoy it! :)

Happy Exciting Monday Morning...

I woke this morning with my newest book in my head. My favorite characters brought a smile to my face. But thoughts soon drifted to the bad acts of other characters as well. Even some of the chosen in my stories do very bad things. But they do it in the most entertaining ways so how can we fault them.
Playing through the most loved points of this book in my head I quickly recalled the looming deadline. With it only a few days away now, the butterflies filled my stomach and began flitting increasing the feeling of anxiety. The happy thoughts departed as my head began ticking off the list of items to be handled before this book can be placed in the hands of my readers.
It is now 9:00AM Monday morning and I am here at the computer with coffee and a million ideas whirling rapidly in my head. They sky is a dull gray and a chilly breeze is teasing the last of the leaves from the trees. It appears the only way I will quiet the busy butterflies today will be to get to work. In a few days the anxiety will be replaced by intense excitement as this book takes wings.
Happy Monday everyone!

The end of a series...

When I started writing the first book, Regarding Ruth, I had planned to write a sequel and that would be it. But when I finished that first book and started the second, In Ruth's Memory, I knew there had to be at least three books in the series. And before I finished book two, I had decided my characters needed four books to tell their stories adequately. Book three eventually became On Grace's Shoulders and the fourth and last book is Pink Sky & Mourning.
As I neared the end of book four I dragged my feet and held off on actually ending it for as long as possible. At the time I didn't realize what I was doing, but now with it done I can see it. Through this series I have come to know the characters well and completely fallen in love with them. I am committed to moving on with a new story in a different time period but in all honesty it will be hard to stop myself from going back to resurrect this series later on.
Book one began with the hanging of Ruth. When I started writing I had expected to dislike her immensely. Yet in the end I felt for her and understood why she did the things that led to her undoing. Naturally I was enamored with her children before I typed a single word of the second book. So naturally by book four it is difficult to say good-bye. For now I prefer to say, pas un adieu... mais bonne nuit or not goodbye... but goodnight.
If you have enjoyed my books and would like to read more of the story of this family, please let me know. My next book will be set in Maine during the roaring '20's, but after that who knows...
Feel free to poke around my website at my website or email me directly at KimScott@kimscottbooks.com
My first three books are available on Amazon for Kindle and paperback. Book 4 will be released on November 8th.
