J. Shepard Trott didn't learn his alphabet in kindergarten, so they made him try it again. He jumped right over reading kid books to novels in second grade, and kept reading. In high school, he read instead of going to class. He began writing novels after college.

Every book he has written is in a different genre. "Shun the Heaven" is a murder mystery. "Lion in the Heights" is a sci-fi thriller. Most recently, "Illumen's Children," is a fantasy novel.

I enjoyed reading it, the Feechee people provoke any number of chuckles. The American vibe that is added to the fantasy setting, alligators, panthers, and catfish, creates a unique flavor.

North Woods by Daniel Mason
"If a novel was a quilt, it would look like this, scraps of many styles and time periods and characters all connected to a North Woods location. Or if God was the author, it might look like this , I expected connections over generations and time colla" Read more of this review »

Russell Simmons
“The great ones, however, never get lost in those distractions. Biggie in particular was legendary for his ability to stay focused. There could be all sorts of things going on—drinks being passed, blunts being rolled, people trying to holler at him about various projects—but he’d just sit in a chair with his eyes closed, seemingly oblivious to all the chaos around him. That was his way of connecting to the stillness inside of him, so that when it was time to get behind the microphone, he wasn’t caught up in worrying about how his last record did or how this one might be received once it was released. No, when it was time to make a song, he was always able to connect with both the music he was hearing in his headphones and the poetry that was filling up his heart. The same way today artists like Jay Z or Lil Wayne are able to create entire songs without ever putting a word down on paper. Through being able to connect completely with the music, they are able to operate from that “zone” that the great ones are able to access. That might not sound like a big deal, but I’ve seen so many artists get sidetracked by those distractions. And when it’s time for them to get in the recording booth and execute their craft, their mind is somewhere else. Sure, they’re rapping along to the beat, but they’re not connected to it.”
Russell Simmons, Success Through Stillness: Meditation Made Simple

Patricia Park
“But what that media coverage could not capture was the collective energy that radiated in the air of the crowd. It was palpable and pulsing; the only word to describe it? Jung—that deep, shared sentiment coursing through the entirety of the stadium and bursting into the streets. Jung for our national team. Jung among the fellow fans. I witnessed that overflowing jung for myself.”
Patricia Park, Re Jane

Rose Hi J. Thank you for adding.

message 2: by J.

J. Trott but whether I enjoy it and whether or not it's true aren't unrelated for me, my lil fav shorty.

Victoria well, see, my rating system is based on if i was entertained. it was well written and entertaining, but the themes and moral i disagree with. the characters were interesting. you can see why oprah liked it though. i am in a book fix, with no entertaining books around. if you are in a fix this will tide you over for a day or two i think.
