The Price of Inheritance - Release Date August 5th!
I'm so excited that book #2 not only has a new - and way better - title, but a release date! The book is now called The Price of Inheritance and will be released on August 5th - just in time for beach read binge season.
What do you think of the title? The wonderful folks at Atria, my publisher, helped with it and I'm pretty thrilled with the result. For me it conjures up old money, personal gambles, a little danger and hopefully some sex appeal too. And speaking of sex appeal, I hope the male lead in the book, Marine Captain Tyler Ford, will be your summer crush! He's definitely mine.
Here's a link to the book on Amazon:

Happy reading!

Book Number Two is Official!
I'm super excited to be working on my second book, especially now that it has an official home! I'm also super excited to be working with the same brilliant editor at Atria Books, Sarah Cantin, who edited The List!
Lot 24 is the working title of my second book and it's all about the glamorous, competitive world of the auction industry. I'm absolutely loving researching everything there is to know about Christie's and Sotheby's, particularly about American Furniture, which is my protagonist's field of expertise.
When I wrote The List, I had spent almost a decade in journalism, so I didn't do that much industry research, pulling instead from years of crazy experiences. Frog noise machines in the bathroom, editors who wore huge safari hats and didn't shower when on deadline? Yeah, that happened. But for Lot 24, I've got lots to learn and it's fun to pull on the research skills I honed in journalism to work on this book.
Not to mention that I'm writing a super hot male love interest in this one. And that's very fun! My fiancé totally understands...
I'll keep you posted on my progress!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day, readers!! I've always been a fan of the big V Day because it's hard not to get behind a day that's all about love. Sure, it's a little Hallmark holidayish, but love is a good thing even if you stay away from the gifts and binging on chocolate! Last Valentine's Day, I was in Dubai and my boyfriend Craig was in Washington D.C. We stayed that way for a whole year, separated by a few time zones and 7,060 miles, and this Valentine's Day is the first holiday we've spent together since Christmas 2011. I'm really excited about finally having him physically right next to me instead of in mysterious Skype land. I'm also thrilled that this Valentine's Day, I can call him my fiance instead of my boyfriend, woohoo!
We're headed to the Mayflower Hotel for dinner tonight, which is a very DC haunt but before I head out the door, I'm also reading a few passages from my favorite love story, The Great Gatsby! Since it's Valentine's Day and no one does smoochy V Day stuff quite like the French, I'm reading the French version which is called Gatsby le Magnifique! I'm not actually good at languages, but my mom is from Belgium and I grew up speaking French with her. Thanks mom! The last line of Gatsby is my favorite sentence in a book ever, so I was very curious to see how it translated. Here it is for you francophiles out there:
Et nous luttons ainsi, barques à contre-courant, refoulés sans fin vers notre passé.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Swoon!
I hope you have a very happy Valentine's Day full of love, sugar and a book or two!

Publishing Day!
I can't believe The List is finally out! I feel like I've been waiting for this day since I was 10 years old and decided to be an author. It sounded really fun back then and it turns out, it is really fun! But there's also a heck of a lot of work involved.
To celebrate the book coming out today, I went to DC bookstore Kramers with two of my best friends from college and bought my own book! It was super exciting and the book seller thought I was a little nuts to be paying for it, but pishposh! It was definitely one of those memorable moments and I'm so glad I was able to share it with good friends. I also told random shoppers in the store to buy my book and basically accosted a Children's International volunteer and begged him to buy it too. Modern day marketing I call it, though he might have called it harassment with a smile.
My wonderful editor Sarah reminded me today that you only get one first book release day and she told me to take pause to enjoy it. So I did stop tweeting, facebooking and generally freaking out long enough to do that. She always has the best advice!
Thanks to everyone who has bought The List so far! I would love to know what you think.

The good old author bio
"The List" comes out in just over a month which makes me want to do a ridiculous dance of joy! I've learned so much about the publishing world in the year since I first sold my debut novel and have loved every minute of it. But the one thing that I find odd is how many bios I've had to write lately. How can you sum yourself up in one paragraph that basically just lists the news outlets you've worked for. It's weird! So instead of sticking to the old professional format, I just posted a slightly more ridiculous/silly/hopefully amusing Q&A on my website to give the old bio a little more pizzazz. It's actually a "get to know you" dating quiz I copied from Glamour.com, but I think it does the trick! Let me know what you think!
