Urban fantasy is a very crowded field right now, and I know that my publisher is being very cautious about new UF series.

As far as a spin off novel or series -- I like the kitsune quite a lot, and I'd love to explore them further. Suzume's story is too closely entwined in the primary events of the current series, but I wouldn't mind exploring the lives of some of her interesting cousins, or possibly even Atsuko someday.(less)

In Memoriam

Yesterday I learned that my friend Jaime Lee Moyer had died. I saw another friend say it on BlueSky, and it took me a very long minute to realize that the Jaime they were talking about was the Jaime that I knew – and even then I didn’t really believe it until I went to CJ Finlay’s very sad post on Facebook.

Jaime’s first book, DELIA’S SHADOW had the same debut year as GENERATION V, so we were both

“With how you were reacting to that glamour, I'll have to keep an eye on you. Otherwise the next time I see you, you'll probably have a Doctor Who tramp stamp.

For one awkward second, I realized that the only way Suzume could possibly look hotter to me was if she had a tattoo of the TARDIS on the middle of her lower back. I was profoundly grateful in that moment that the kitsune were unable to read minds.”
M.L. Brennan, Iron Night

“I’d never exactly wanted a reputation—frankly, I’d spent most of my life just trying to fade into the background of almost every situation I was in—but I’d apparently, despite my best efforts, secured one for myself. Fortitude Scott—Holy Shit, We’re Glad You’re Not Your Sister.”
M.L. Brennan, Dark Ascension

“Prudence was waiting for us when we arrived, and I saw her visibly wince as I pulled the Fiesta into the parking space beside her Lexus, like an automotive version of Lady in the Tramp.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

“Becoming a fae leader? Not on my bucket list.”
E.J. Stevens, Ghost Light

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

[Kung Fu Monkey -- Ephemera, blog post, March 19, 2009]”
John Rogers

“There were no windows in my bedroom, so I had to sit up and read my clock to figure out how angry I should be at my visitor. Eight A.M. I hated whoever woke me up. Had they come an hour earlier, I would have also hated their families and any household pets.”
Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

“On top of all that, you're naked. And while I'm going to hate myself for this later, could you put on some clothes? At least just for a little while, so I can think. Then you can go right back to being naked. All the time. With my full blessing.”
Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

M.L. Brennan The end is so perfect -- the last text message, then the Sherlock reveal, then just that look on her face. PERFECTION.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) YES! I concur. Best Irene Adler. :)

And the end of the episode: LOVE
