Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

My fellow Christians. Every year the subject of “Should Christians celebrate Halloween is discussed. Have you taken the time to see what the Bible says about this subject? Today is Halloween, are praying for souls tonight?

Anton LaVey, Founder of the Church of Satan, said “I’m glad that Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year.” Are you praying?

I get it. Kids love getting candy. Cool. Yet, as a Christian, should you celebrate this event?

Please tell me your pastor has taught on this subject. Please tell me you discussed the meaning of Halloween this was discussed during teachings on Spiritual Warfare.

Remember: It is better to disappoint man than to disappoint God.

Spirit of Christmas

Whether one is a Christian or not, It seems like December is the month that many think of Jesus. The “Spirit of Christmas” has nothing to do with you getting a gift other than the birth of the Savior, who is your gift.

Don’t let this commercialize version of the virgin birth take you off track. Don’t fall for the “Peace on earth and goodwill towards men” catchphrases. The birth of Christ was a seismic change in time. In fact we went from B.C. to A.D. said differently, we mark time and history from His birth.

When you become a Christian you have the opportunity to enjoy a peace that you never had. Will you slip up and make mistakes? Yes. So what! Get up and continue to press towards your “high call in Christ.” Now let us make this a great Christmas. By the way, you’ll hear a lot of white noise from unbelievers. Consider it a test and remain firm in YOUR faith.

In His grip,

Yves

Don’t Fear the Reality, Fear the Alternative

Today and yesterday I was in areas where I don’t normally go. It has been enlightening to observe people during this current threat. Fear is a strong driver. If harnessed, fear can be used to propel us to great heights. For instance, the father who is fearful that he can’t support his family. He will be driven to do any and everything to take care of his loved one. On the negative side, fear can paralyze us into making bad decisions or no decisions at all. An indecision is still a decision.

I’d like to offer a few things that I was going to share with our church this coming Sunday.

Folks, who is your one? Who is it you have not shared the grace, mercy, and love of the Gospel. While many are fearful, and justifiably so, of the Coronavirus, we have the assurance of everlasting life. We have a peace that is not predicated on our daily situation, whether that situation is good or bad. Share with them that assurance.

Bad things happen to good people. Christians are not immune to bad things. That’s why we are to be the beacon of light to the world. We keep our eyes on the eternal while living out the tenets of Christianity in the present. Share the love of Christ with them.

I won’t go on a long spill on how it was the Christians who stayed and helped the sick during the plagues. I will remind you that Christians (mostly Priests) were some of the chief architects science a millennium ago. We are the ones who created some of the first universities in the early years of America. We are the ones who started hospitals and orphanages. Why am I telling you this abbreviated history lesson? You need to remember that we lean into helping people, we don’t run away. There are people who really need you now. Provide them with the realistic view of was going on but also show them a realistic way they can look towards the future.

Lean in my fellow brothers and sisters of the Christian faith. If they reject you, that’s fine. But what if they don’t resist you and want to hear more about Who you belong to? Help them to not fear the reality but follow the eternal reality that is set before them. Hmm, fulfill your mission in Matt 28:19. Blessings

Expectations of a Christian Life

[image error]What is it to be a Christian? Said differently, how should I live as a Christian? What are some expected trails I will face? What are the joyous things I should experience? Who should I be talking to about Heaven and Hell? Who should I talk to about love? What are the marks of a Christian? Let’s talk.

During this time of year people are hurrying about to get the “perfect” gift for people they love and know.  2012 will be over in about 2 weeks.  This is an excellent time to review what we planned on doing, what we accomplished and what we plan on doing.  Let’s look at a few things you can do.

What do you know that Christ require from us?  (You’re now hearing the Jeopardy melody right now)

Ok, keep those thoughts in mind.   How about becoming a better you. Everything we are going to cover with you boils down to having a “Spiritual Goal for 2013.”

The first thing that I think you should give God is this: Give yourself a goal of giving God a present next Christmas.  Here are some suggestions for…

Let It Go!

[image error]The Bible contains a very short book (a letter) called Philemon. This book, although shorter than a typical sports article, provides a useful lesson for us today. The Apostle Paul is requesting the freedom of a slave named Onesimus. Paul conveys to Philemon, Onesimus’ owner, he would “refresh my heart in Christ” if Onesimus was freed. Now, there are some other points we can talk about but we will concentrate only on one point today.

Who are You Holding as a Prisoner?
Who are you holding prison…as a slave to past issues? Is it your friend or co-worker? Is it your spouse? Is it God? I recently spoke with a friend about God. He, like so many who despise Christianity, espouse their outright hatred for Christianity and what it stands for because someone in the church hurt them in the past. Please note, I am only talking about my discussion about this subject for the past two decades. I do not tell them their feelings are wrong. Rather, I remind them that the church is full of imperfect people. Christians are commanded to be seperated from the world and its beliefs. However, we still live in the world and interact with non-believers. Some of those imperfect non-Christians will join the ranks of Christians. Therefore, the likelihood the church will be imperfect also. The chief difference is that Christians are constantly striving to be more Christ-like. Regrettably, we will make mistake…even when we are trying to do things in love. The point is this our mistakes may be what some will use to dislike Christianity. Let us show some grace and mercy towards them. We want them to enjoy the joy of Christ. That’s what I tried to show toward my friend. What about you? Who are you holding as a prisoner? Is it your spouse, supervisor, competitor? Let it go!

Forgiveness
Today is the time to free them from the mental cell you’ve placed them in. It will free you to allow your mind to concentrate on nobler things. More importantly, you will be granting them grace and mercy. You know, just how Christ as shown us grace and mercy. Take time this weekend and see if you need to free your mind of past hurts and renew or refresh a relationship or two. You will benefit from it. The image of Christianity will benefit because people will see grace and mercy exhibited through you. Last, those who offended you will benefit because the pathway of a restored relationship will be opened. Ah, the power of forgiveness. Forgive as He has forgiven us (Col 3:13).

Blessings to you as you go forth and disciple all Nations in His name (Matt 28:19)
