David Treanor was a newspaper reporter before joining the BBC where he edited radio news bulletins for the Today programme and the six o'clock news. He now writes full time from his home in Oxfordshire. His travel book, Mission Mongolia - Two Men, One Van, No Turning Back - is a humorous account of an epic 8,000 mile road trip he made in an old van. He has written two novels, The Past Lies Waiting, a ghostly murder mystery set in Tuscany, and Rendition Island,a political thriller set in Kazakhstan and Eastern Europe.

I'm so glad you loved the book, and thank you for taking the trouble to tell me so. In our case driving back wasn't really an option because we were handing the van over to charity -- but there are certainly lots of exciting ways we could have gone, and it would have been great to go through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for example. I still have a hankering to see them... Having said that, we had a great train trip from Ulaanbataar to Beijing and we had a fun couple of weeks in China before flying home.
