I was born in Cobham, Kent, and spent my early years in West Africa and Ireland, until my family eventually settled in Leicestershire. When I was nine years old, I decided I wanted to be an archaeologist, in the mistaken belief that they spent their time digging up dinosaur bones. When I discovered what they actually did, and got over the disappointment of a life without dinosaurs,I never looked back. I went on my first dig at the age of twelve, and spent school holidays happily up to my ears in mud on sites in England and Scotland. I worked for most of my adult life in archaeology, and most recently worked as an archaeological illustrator for a commercial unit in Northamptonshire. I now write full time and use my background in archaeology ...more

I'm happy to say this isn't a dead series, in spite of the gap between book 2 and 3. Crowfield Rising is written and will appear at some point in the not too distant future. I will post an update nearer the time.
As I've said elsewhere, life has thrown some curve balls in the last few years, and book 3 has been a casualty. It was always my intention to finish the trilogy, but returning to William and his world has not been easy. However, I did return and have now finished his story. Thank you for being so patient. Crowfield Rising picks up Will's and Shadlok's story a few months after the abbey is attacked by the demon. A terrible fay war is looming and a new and deadly enemy threatens the lives of all those who live in the abbey and the surrounding villages.

Crowfield Rising will be published in 2015, and further details will be available on my website closer to the time. Website: pat-walsh.com(less)

Christmas ghosts

One of the things I look forward to most at Christmas is a good ghost story. I enjoy them all year round, but in the darkness of a northern hemisphere winter, they take on a special resonance. I have my favourites - anything by MR James and several of Charles Dickens' short stories, as well as A Christmas Carol. But there is one story I read every year - it is part of my Christmas, even though by Read more of this blog post »

Pat Walsh Thank you so much, Northern! Crowfield Rising will bring all the loose ends together. Will and Shadlok find themselves in the middle of a fay war, and the Black Death comes to the abbey and villages, so things are not going to be easy for them and the people - and hobs - they care about. Thanks for reading the books. x

This wasn't addressed to me, but I am tooooooooooooo excited! Crowfield is an outstanding storyline, and I can't wait to see the third book in the series hit the shelves!

Pat Walsh Hello Jb,I'm really pleased that you like the Crowfield books. There is a third book to come and it'll finish off Will's story. Hopefully it'll be published towards the end of 2014. In the meanwhile, the first in a new short series featuring the hob will be out early in 2014. It's set 200 years after the Crowfield books, just after the Dissolution of the abbeys, and is part fantasy, part ghost story. I hope you like it! Pat x

Jb Jensen No matter how many other books I read, my mind always goes back to the Crowfield Abbey series, and what is going to happen to Will. I really hope there will be more in this series. <3 love these!! thank you.
