I have a PhD in Eighteenth-Century gothic literature from Keele University.

I enjoy literature, philosophy, and the impact of modern society on people's lives. My writing is informed by social concerns, ecology, and disability. Peaceful Meadows is my first novel and deals with an alternative hippie lifestyle.

Golden Gate Park was the site of the Human Be-in in 1967 and that was the reason we got married there. It is such a beautiful place it is hard to write about San Francisco without mentioning it. So in answer to your question, the hippies came first, then the wedding and finally the book. (less)

He wanted a story where the hippies were the hero's, but not like Easy Rider or The Lovin's where they died, or the dream was corrupted. He wanted something positive.
I did read a lot of books like the Hippie Trip, Hippies and American Values and the fabulous book on the Haight Ashbury by Christopher Perry.(less)

What they tend to have in common is they are all traditionally published, bestselling books. What happens to the Indie books some of us read?

Looking back over this year’s reading it is hard to pick just one book as my book of the year, so h Read more of this blog post »

This work is unreadable drivel. I wanted to try and be positive and suggest the first 400 pages were experimental and impressionistic with the moon, death and the husband, but after this, it descends into drivel.

Tracey Madeley, Peaceful Meadows

“Our contemporary Western society, in spite of its material, intellectual and political progress, is increasingly less conducive to mental health, and tends to undermine the inner security, happiness, reason and the capacity for love in the individual; it tends to turn him into an automaton who pays for his human failure with increasing mental sickness, and with despair hidden under a frantic drive for work and so called pleasure.”
Erich Fromm

“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.”
Erma Bombeck

Les Brown, The Power of Purpose
