Richard J. Greene was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1939. After his parents divorced, he enlisted in the United States Navy at seventeen, serving in the South Pacific and taking part in the atomic testing at Eniwetok in 1958. Discharged in 1960, he worked in the trucking industry in Denver, Colorado; California; and Portland, Oregon, where he retired in 1996. He and his wife, Cathy, spend much of their time with their children and grandchildren. An avid golfer, he also dabbles in oil painting and writing for relaxation.
