A Letter to the Divided

No matter how pretty a flower blooms again and again, there are stupid and selfish people in this world that wish to blow it away again. I can tell you about the sorrow of each era. It has men and women that desire nothing more than to line their fancy pockets with wealth and power, leaving behind those that do not have anything to live for, with absolutely nothing to live for. Many of you will close your eyes and say that you do not see that sorrow, but stop lying to yourselves. That sorrow is all around us.They claim that the aim is equality…equality for whom? All I can see is a widening gap. The rich get rich and the poor get poorer. Without knowing passion you decided that there is no getting hurt as long as you are blind to the ways of the world today. You decide to look at the world as simply…a foregone conclusion. That is what drives people mad I tell you. It makes them unable to remember the gentle sea or the cool fresh breeze on the interlocking hills of their hometown when they were younger. Don’t you hear the voices of our forefather passed on in the wind? Don’t you hear them crying in pain at what has happened to the world? I know that I can hear their sadness. This is not the world they saw for their descendants. They want you to take back the sorrow in the world today. They want you to stop ignoring what is all around you and look at the world with clear eyes and do your best to fight. If that sorrow is lost, so will the hopes of millions of voices for the future. Sorrow is just a moment that will never repeat itself, but it is a moment that can lead to greater things in tomorrow’s world.Just look at the waves on the lakes, seas, rivers, streams and oceans. They truly depict sorrow. The wave rises and rushes forward but soon subsides into something gentle that has so much power to annihilate. It soon disappears into calmness in the distance and forms a greater part of the hopes of tomorrow’s wave somewhere.Even though there is a future none of us really knows exists, we cannot let the gaps furthering the divides between people grow. Until you take back the sorrow the rich forget in their money and poor forget in their longing, the gap between the two will only grow wider and cause sorrow beyond anything else in this world. If you are not careful there will come a time when these people meet and hold hands. It will be seen as a symbolic gesture of false unity. The fact is that in truth it will simply be a show of aggression with smiles that do not touch the other’s eyes.In that one handshake, there will be nothing else besides hatred and coldness. Their cold hearts will be shattered into a thousand pieces by the freezing moonlight they each stare out as the gap between them increases. In the end they will both embrace the darkness and hate each other, and in the words of Master Yoda this hate will lead to universal suffering. That will lead to more death if you are not careful. Wars begin because of such things. One man does not want to be poor again and the other does not wish to be poor, hence they will fight and tear this world apart. These kinds of war will not end because everyone will keep fighting for their personal beliefs. But believe me, trying to fight for what you believe in, fighting for someone you love and care for is not bad and in the end you end up doing the right thing all through. It is not foolish or mistaken. You cannot blame both men for fighting their war because it is inevitable as long as the world is this way with two extremes that seem to be getting worse. And yes, I might not understand the world, but I think it is possible to change this world because there is someone out there that is precious to you. You can even love the world and seek to narrow that gap so that the same hatred that plagues us does not plague them. I am sure it is the same for every one and that is why in such wars you will find every one trying so hard to ensure things do not get bad.The reasons for fighting are all wrong and should change in earnest so that people fight to narrow the gaps between them and prevent future wars. But the selfish people that all fight for the wrong reasons to keep the gap in place and make it widen it so that the endless cycle of inequality dogs mankind forever. These people think and act in the wrong way with noble intentions meant to benefit only themselves and not the rest of the world. It is even scary when we close our minds. That is it because the only thing that we will see is an end and not care about what happens in the middle there. The powerlessness of one side against the other always leads to conflicts of closed minds. However, power is whatever one makes of it. Soldiers and ministers are simply tools in war but above and beyond that they forget one thing that they are still just individuals fighting from two sides of a particular coin. Poverty and wealth the widening divide of today’s society has created one question whenever soldiers of the two points of view clash, what are we fighting against and how are we supposed to do it?But I believe that a day will come when all sides can work together side by side to narrow the gap, but that day might come when it is too late and all that we hold dear in this world is lost. Because the truth is there is a need to look at what we can do and what we need to do all mixed in what we want to do, but we must decide basing on our hearts with the aim of narrowing the divide that is ever growing.

A Letter to the Ignorant

There are times that you find yourself without a choice anymore. You might not understand what is right, but you should not just give up. If you know what is going on, you cannot just keep quiet. You cannot just sit there and be happy in your ignorance claiming that ignorance is bliss. Ignorance has never been bliss. It is a false heaven hidden away from the realities of real life…tucked away from the pain, sorrows and tears of those in pain that are crying for the present. The problem is that history has given us example after example of what a majority of ignorance can lead to. We are all too aware what being silent can lead. It can take us down a path where we see less of the true potential of the coming future. It is not a path that those old enough to remember want us to remember. You have to speak up before our blood soaked history happens all over again. As we speak up or attempt to, we can try to determine what exactly determines friend or foe. Is it the colour of one’s skin? Is it the ideals one believes in? What is it? Do you have that answer? Do you even know what it means? Each and every one of us has a heart. Most times this piece of muscle is in motion full of passions and deep feelings. It is these passions that make me realise however much we say we are ignorant, we are not. We are loving animals full of life and only scared to show that side of us, but we are traveling through the surface of time and time dictates that we throw away any notions of ignorance. If you do not believe me I am going to ask you to simply try one small thing. Look up to the sky that is always blue at any point in time. But in this day and age, doesn’t that endless blueness squeeze your heart? You see the endless days of violence that gave birth to our age of tense peace, filled all the survivors with endless sorrow. Those survivors are too afraid to let go of what they fought for and have managed to suppress the current generations, which have the views of tomorrow. But…I say to those sad and old cowards,Life goes on.  As long as you still have your burning souls, and even if the truth loses sight of you, life goes on. Even if you wanted to protect it and your heart was shattered, your eyes which knew the true sorrow of yesterday can be filled with the same love that made you fight for the world you dreamed of. You know what is right and what is needed, so don’t be afraid to remain behind the walls of ignorance.Let go of your fears and pass on what needs to be passed on.Do not let the light that our forefathers fought for in days past, scatter in vain. Stop being ignorant and awaken to the truths of this world. The time to speak out has come. Use your voice and awaken all your neighbours pretending to be ignorant from that place where sorrow engulfs everything. If you love deeply with your strong courage and hopes then how can you be ignorant? The memories of the sins of the past should be a wake up call. I know that somewhere deep down, those memories bind all the entangled souls lost in ignorance. That is what you should be aiming for. Feed off those memories. Let them move you and those around you. If you fight the ignorance you shall awaken from that slumber and illuminate the whole world, from this place we have all been cast into by the rest of the world. Do not let this world stop you from believing in today. Do not let what is happening be the reason to shut your mouth. Continue believing in today and what can happen for the future generations. But if I may ask you, why do you feign ignorance when you know things and can speak up for the greater good? The state of the world has made more and more people pretend to be ignorant. It is better to be ignorant that speak out. Even if you do not like someone and are unwilling to listen to them, you shut up and act like a robot. You are not a robot, but still maybe we need to learn that ignorance is not the answer and that speaking out also involves tolerance. That is what is really lacking in this world. That is what has forced many to be ignorant because if you do not agree with the authority, you are labelled a traitor and a persona non grata. But I want to ask…Are you the only person that is right and will not accept anyone that you do not like and agree with? That kind of sentiment puts things in the minds of people “What if I had power, real power? If only I could get a hold of such power?” …sentiments that in my dear country seem to be causing the birth of a new rebel group…Anyone that thinks that they do not have power will probably think that way and become a curse on the peace. But you see the problem is that once you get hold of that kind of power you are the one that makes other people ignorant. You make them cry. Do not forget that as you wallow in your own pit of ignorance. You see you are not the only one who is right. If you get power and think that the time to come out of the ignorant tide has come, do not forget the last two paragraphs and wield your power blindly and ignorantly, for your own personal reasons and justice. That would just make you a destroyer of the innocent and nothing else. So do not be ignorant. Do not be a coward. If you know something, speak up and do not be afraid. And to those making others be ignorant, life does go on. You can let go and trust that those who have a vision of tomorrow in this current age will do as you did, they will lead the world forward and you can sleep easy at let the world pass on to other hands.

A Letter to the Dictators

They say that a scholar’s name will be remembered for a few years after his passing, but a warrior shall forever be remembered. If you look at it from all sides, it can only seem to be seen as praise because the warrior took it upon himself to free and defend the weak and oppressed. The scholar chose to tell all the people in the world something that they did not know. But in all honesty it is a curse. Why?Because the warrior was once a significant nobody. The ones who ruled saw no reason to get rid of this warrior. But that is the false confidence of the rulers. They dim those insignificant at the moment little more than cockroaches. But experience turns a cockroach into an animal. This animal can become something else and in turn it too become an overzealous and confident being worth killing, and that is when the ruler decides to strike…but alas it is too late, because the ruler created the very monster that will destroy him in the name of freedom and justice. You see once seated at the top, the warrior fails to see that true skill is in fact not a blazing flame. A predictable attack has the most predictable outcome. That is how he views the cockroach until the insect becomes one that can oppose him and make him quiver in his breeches. In the start of his or her journey, the warrior fights for code, duty, honour and freedom before the stupor of power removes all sense of right from the warrior. That is when the warrior will fall from the top to the very bottom until another warrior takes up the sword against him to free the weak and defenceless. The way that the world was, men and women were forced to fight as children for all their ideals, until eventually they could live as nothing else. Even with a desire to seek peace and understanding with every soul, those that are warriors always use force to eliminate the evil that is in the world. Warriors are burdened with sin, covered in scars and yet they continue to fight for their ideals removing those that are oppressing the weak.Their way is extremely sad and it eventually leads them down a dark path often filled with blood and tears. In this world full of contradictions the sins of taking life never changes, but to change all that a meaning must be found.Just look at our history. It is full of these warriors. If I start to mention them, I might end up in trouble, but the mist obvious examples are Milton Obote and Idi Amin. They were warriors on a righteous path, men with a vision, their sword was the will of the weak and their shield was their sense of duty, code, honour, freedom and justice. They all start out loved and adored before the seat of power corrupts them. They start out with good intentions; intentions that kindness is extended to everyone. But those intentions turn into decrees. The warriors force those intentions down the throats of those who would aid them in governing, which is no different from an evil act. They abandon all that they love giving self-serving excuses to make themselves feel a lot better about themselves. They lose sight of what they really wanted. The desire to see a beautiful tomorrow is what matters in the beginning but in the end, they desire to keep the world in today, refusing to face reality and abandoning the rest of the world to its dirty fate. They do not choose reality and the forward march of time thinking that they have the only truth. You see the line between good and evil is almost as thin as the line between love and hate if not thinner. That is why good intentions of a warrior can so easily turn into evil intentions. And that is why warriors must give way to the scholars. You see my friend, with warriors at the heart and top of power, mankind cannot move forward into the future. Warriors are afraid of change because they believe that the world is in an endless cycle and in truth it is, because men gather to exchange shows of force instead of ideas. Mankind is yearning for that future that the warriors so boldly sit on. Men everywhere want to see a bright new dawn. They want to see the world change. We will always be grateful to the warriors because they had the energy to destroy an old system that kept bringing out the worst in themselves. They destroy the world and create a falsehood that is the new world only for it to turn back into the same old world they fought against. In turn they are demonized and all sorts of hateful and evil things are blamed on the warriors, and that is simply because men prefer to blame their sadness on a person instead of the world created by that person. But until the warriors understand that they should lay down their arms and embrace the future, the world will never be free of the past, never able to move forward into the uncharted waters of the future full of possibility. True those of world who cannot pick up the warrior’s sword, will never understand the true problems of the world. But we will have to figure out those problems by ourselves in a changed world with fewer warriors in power.Even so we will find a way to make the world a place where no one has to pick the warrior’s way. I believe that the true way of a warrior is fighting your fight and letting. The warrior’s final battle is one with one’s self, one in which the warrior has to find a way of sharing their happiness however small it might be with others, and expanding those particular feelings is what will lead us to true freedom and justice. As a true person desiring peace you have to know that you must think of the rest of the world. No one knows what is going to happen to the world. Not the warrior, not the scholar, not the weak or strong…no one, but each and every one in the world must be able to make their own choices

A Letter to the Disheartened

Someone is attacked and they respond which prompts another attack. We all want have a happy life…to be happy, and we all fight because we think it is the only way we can achieve that. Perhaps the solution is a world without the threat of war. What would this kind of world look like? This is a world where if conflict was eliminated, all people on the earth would simply conform to a set plan and follow it. Your role will be predetermined and if you do not conform then you would be weeded out.Such a world would have people who are not restrained by worry and people who are free from uncertainty about their role in life and the future. People would live untroubled by doubt. But such a world is a fantasy, a world where people live according to the destinies decided for them, manipulating the very essence of what we are, our humanity and the one gift the creator granted us, choice. Yes, no war and every one would see that fighting is pointless in the world since our plans would be pre-planned. But I ask you, don’t we create our own destiny and plans. We all have dreams, wishes and hopes and to put it more bluntly, desires. We want to do this, we want to become that. We all feel that way and that is why such a world is fantasy and a delusion of the mad minds that wish that. I tell you, you cannot stay in the same position for too long. Let me ask you, would you like a world where nothing happens and you’re told what you are supposed to do. I can tell you that for a long time, as people we have lived our lives in a selfish equilibrium. We share a dream in our selfishness but never realise it. You see world peace comes with freedom and independence of the minds. We cannot choose submission to what someone serves us on a golden plate full of jewels. And, although some will say that it is better to know nothing and that what you do not know will not kill you, but in this world where such a fantasy as no war is the shared vision of many, I personally am not satisfied with that and neither should you be. I say we have one life that we can only live in this moment, in this hour the only time we have. Your dreams are yours and yours alone. Do not let others use them for their own benefit. Your dreams just like your words make a difference. They matter. Sure, some will listen basing on who you are to them, but your words do mean something. When you believe in what you are saying in the moment, they are your words. If you have no choice but to fight, fight for your dreams and hope for the future. That is the very life force of all human beings and if I am to be honest all living things out there. When you are denied your dreams and hopes for the future, you become nothing more than an empty husk of muscle and organs. We will be ruined capable of nothing more than mere existence. All our lives are a struggle for the future. It is right to fight for it and that is why you must fight. As living beings that is why we must fight to destroy that which would destroy us and plunge us into a world of living death. And when you feel that something is a bad idea. If you feel it in your bones, stand up for your rights. Someone should not label you and what you stand for. You might not know until the fact has passed, but that is just the way things are. In this world of arrogance it is hard to know what is truth and what is fiction. In this life we all do things so that they might be found and find ways to know that we might live again. We say goodbye but we know that we will soon say hello, and in that way all that we lose as we live our dreams will not matter because if it is truly ours it will come back to us. Something beautiful is happening and it is always happening in the present, not in the past and not in the future. All you can do is raise your voice, sing and hope that it may happen tomorrow too because unlike the past the future is yet to come and it can be changed with our actions today, actions that we must determine with our own minds and hearts. But you see we are all prototypes of our own faith and beliefs. Each of us has their own path to take in this world and as such should not let it be overtaken by unwanted attentions. The ideals of tomorrow’s world are our own and we must follow them. I can tell you that it will not be a pretty story worth being retold over and over again, but it is your story worth living and enjoying without being told what to do by those that do not understand a thing or two about living to chase your dreams. The sad thing is that you might get into a sad situation that requires you to lose your body, mind and soul to your ideals and hopes. Interestingly such a situation for you will not be all that bad. It suits us as human beings so well that it might make us sad not to chase the situation that requires sacrifice. That is why to the children of today I will tell them that when purity and innocence turns into actual power, they might bring a cloud of darkness over the world with that power. It might be a good darkness or the kind of darkness that frightens you, but as long as you are not conforming to what someone else is telling you to do without proper consent from your heart, then, it is alright, just alright. That goes back to what war really is. It is many ideals fighting for prominence, when in actual truth these ideals are all chasing one dream. That is why you will find that there is one party crouched down as though they want to collapse. The hand they would have raised not being able to come down and strike the enemy in a fell swoop. And when the soldiers of the different ideals march off on their wars, their loved ones always ask, “tell me why you have to go?” And they always do not wait to hear the answer to the question. They simply tell the soldier, “all we want is you to come home.”After all isn’t love for what you are fighting for why you are fighting? In the end war is brought about because various forms of love reject each other. Love rejects love as a heavy burden and before you know it, it turns into a burning hatred that burns brighter than the yellow sun in our skies. The two hatreds then turn a blind eye to the inconvenient truths as long as they can fight to the death of the other. That is the world we live in today, a world of dilemas where we destroy each other and leave behind the fact that we once held love close to our bosoms and once tried to understand each other. But there is another way. We all have a different option. Instead of plunging into war and violence why don’t we seek the warmth that is in each of us? Why don’t we look for more love that brings us to understanding each others’ pasts, troubles, dreams and desires? I think we resort to war because we are weak and because love hurts almost as much as it provides a great feeling.Do not be afraid though. Face your fears and become stronger in your conviction. Then that is when we will learn to what it means to truly have desires, dreams and our own destinies. So to create the future we have to change from what we are used to…We want people to understand us but do not want to understand them in return. So maybe we have our future and hope…

A Letter to The Fighters For Liberty

Does being older make you right? Does being more experienced make you a better person? Yes, respect the elders, but does being an elder mean that you deserve the respect of all and sundry? It sounds complicated, or simple depending on how you look at it, doesn’t it. My job as a young man has always been simple, respect those older than I am and the rest will fall into place. All I have had to worry about is that things would always end up as they should. Even when there was corruption, the belief has always been that the elders would do the right thing in the end. I have lived my life believing that the elders should be responsible for their actions. Even under the protection of my family I always believed that particular statement. But oh well, we must come to terms with the fact that corruption is part of this world. From before our forefathers this stupid thing that we call corruption has been in the very veins of this earth. But, I believe that he existence of the smallest things, such as knowledge have the power to change the future of the whole world in an instance. Even if the world looks stable, the world does change little by little under our feet. If an idea comes at the right time, it has the capability to change the world in a significant way.The agreed thought train in most of the world is the need for change. Not all in the world adhere to a single doctrine, which they would wish to see become the dominant factor in the way things are done, but there is a single common sentiment in the wishes of the billions world over.In order to break from the oppressive rule of those with corrupt fingers and minds, we must break from the tried and tested system that feeds the few and ignores the many. We must let go of all that was and try to find our own path…even if it is our own form of corruption because as the case is here in Uganda, the old have had their turn and now is the time for the young to take the bull by the horns. That might be seen as a call to arms, but it is not. Just because you want something it does not give you the right to resort to terrorism. Regardless, of how righteous you think you are, you cannot just go around killing people. It is never right to take another life. You see there are those who are crying that there should be a War on Corruption, but I war ever justified? Is it ever right to take up arms and go against another full well knowing that the facts will never change regardless of the outcome of the war? Some wars are best left unfought. They are best left in the minds of the people. Why? Because if a war like the one proposed on corruption does happen, then tell me won’t both sides turn it into a personal fight. The uncorrupt will hate the corrupt whereas the corrupt will hate the uncorrupt. In the end it will just be one full circle that ends up back in the same place. Take it this way, what happens to those who are at the side, those who know almost nothing about what is going, and those whose every day war is to find something to eat? It is never fair when it comes to war.War always begins out of good intentions motivated by the hope that they can save a country, a people and a future. Both sides have always wanted to give their families a better life. Although that is self-interest and self-idealism, what kind of world would it be if people were not allowed to live in such a way?Yes there are people who can work for the greater good even at their own expense but those are the ones we should be most suspicious of. They might claim that they are fighting for every one and all of us who are affected by the horrors of this world including corruption, but they will still ensure that the families of the corrupt get dragged into the mud. The truth is whether they fool us or fool themselves they do not fight for us. They fight for their own selfish and corrupt ideals. However to save humanity and the truth, we cannot always be righteous. But if we are to go back to corruption. The answer in fighting this vice lies in finding a light for all of us to follow and nothing can live without light. It will give us hope where there is despair. It will make it possible to live in this cruel world ensuring that we do not turn into the corrupt monsters that are sitting in the large offices with smug smiles all over their faces. It can give people a shining promise that we can become better. That light is found in each of us. Humanity alone is a reflection of God; the power to transcend the now. The god of Possibility. That is a romantic idea in most people’s eyes. Many would call that the sentiment of a nice person. Without a strong faith in humanity and the world one cannot think in such a way. Some might find it foolish to put faith into something so intangible…a mere light. Furthermore, there are those who will say that ideas like this are not essential to life. To me who is a dreamer, those people are one of two things…either lucky or deluded. However, in the end war is as inevitable as the summer rains. So when you go into battle, whatever battle that it might be, there is no room for regret. Do not worry about the lives that fall to the wayside. As long as it is for the common good then fight on because the masses will hold on for you.If you question what it is you are doing, if you wonder what life holds for you in the fight against many things, always remember that there are people that you are responsible for and must be careful. If you seek corruption think about them and maybe you will find your strength and light to fight against the madness of corruption. You see the one thing that matters is the fact the way things are is just that. No one is aspiring to change the fact that we are a corrupt population. No one is thinking about it. In the end you cannot blame the cogs in the machine that keep it running. No one can blame those in the system working to keep the status quo as is. But don’t we have pride? We might be cogs in this machine called life, cogs that simply accept corruption as is and let it happen even on our very own door steps, but cogs have pride. This pride is in our hearts and you will always know what your duty is. Your heart has the answers and because of your heart it is easy for you to know what you must do. Do not let the world as it is make you forget your heart because it is the one place that fully belongs to you and it is your responsibility.

A Letter to The Differing Views

The future looks bleak for some of us. I am only twenty four years and I see nothing new coming out of Uganda, but still…I can have my hope.It is true that people are weak and flawed. It is true that we all have dreams. We need one another to keep walking forward no matter how painful the path might be. Regardless of anything, people pass on their dreams to others who share the same beliefs to find a way to move forward. That is how it has always been. Having someone besides you all the time and this person challenges you can make all the difference. You see the way that the world is right now, leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. There is indiscriminate development with little regard of how that development impacts the whole world. Sky scrapers shoot up, water bodies reclaimed even when that might not be the development that is needed by this world. All the poison in this world is caused by humanity itself and therein lies the issue. You see as humans we have gotten so used to ignoring the fact that Mother Nature does not have an ounce of mercy. Our ancestors, however, understood that. They were products of nature and they understood it instinctively that Mother Nature was a heartless woman. So in order to survive they created the foundations of this world. They created civilization, cities, societies and countries. But then it all went wrong because it grew too big and complicated. A society that was meant to serve the people slowly made the people serve it the way it is this very instance as you read this simple writing. As time winds on, one thing is obvious, this society that humanity calls the world today has made life too difficult for ordinary people. What was made to give the lives of human beings hope, purpose and direction instead gave birth to different systems, and the law of Mother Nature did not allow the systems to co-exist. This is because two systems from opposing spectrums will always try to prove themselves more superior than the other. But I say that it is possible for humanity to succeed. That desire that drove our ancestors to form civilizations is still lying dormant in all of us. The opposing ideologies might someday, perhaps, be merged into one.Even if the current world seeks to reject such notions; even if the world and humans as we are today say no to this particular notion; even if all the hatred of the down trodden continues to runner deeper than the earth’s core, there might be a day when humanity seeks to form one idea, one goal and one future that consists of every man doing what they believe is right for their future and the future of the world.Yes, it is a child’s duty to take on the wishes of your parent. Sometimes their wishes consume the child to the point that the child loses their future. Yes, parents give children life and the bond of blood makes it the duty of a child to fulfil those wishes. It can become a curse and not a wish, but that is the way the world is and most people stick to this ethos out of duty, but is it really the future the child will want.Sticking to the way things are is something that is norm, and breaking it is terrible, but it is needed. The future is always a conflict and some seek to use that conflict and take over the future for themselves. They ignore what I would call, God’s greatest gifts to mankind. They pay a blind eye to human possibility, human choice and humanity as a whole. They take the decision away from us by thinking of a future that envisions them and not us as a whole. But honestly, isn’t the choice to one’s future a choice of self. The world is full of many contradictions, but my thoughts lie in the fact that the choices of tomorrow must not be made by us, they must be made by the children, the youth who are alive today and their children who are yet to be born. It is not the place of those that are living their futures to decide the future of those who are yet to fully understand the ways of the world.  Some will say that we are fighting, what more do you want us to do?All I can say is there is always more you can do. Why? That is because you will always be a scape goat for someone that seeks to take away the choice from you and those who will follow you. Will you die in vain while you curse the world after realizing that you have done little in this world? I will cry for you until you realise that there is more that you can do for this world to hold onto your future and the future of those around you. Some of you might be asking why is he willing to cry for others? A few others might be thinking that a man should never cry in front of others, but honestly there is nothing wrong with crying because crying because you care is a different matter from the normal crying.Even though we are sad in this world of ours, we must try to escape this sadness. We must live hoping for our personal futures. Even if you are going through hell with loads of pain, do not close your heart because of it. Acknowledge that sadness and fight against those that seek to dampen the future we all dream of by taking us along into their personal hells. You see sadness ends up taking us through to anger, but never give in to that anger and close your heart. It does no good. You will lose your chance at being a human…the link to your humanity. Anger can become a slave master and once that happens you realise that you are a slave without anything to live for. With the sadness of living for hatred and anger one realises that humanity’s true gem is the power of the human heart. That is where my hope for the future of humanity comes from.

A Letter to the Old Generation (Uganda Old Guard)

Human beings are an evolving creature. We always have hope for the future; a future shinning bright with all potential of possibility. In the beginning of a certain struggle it was nothing more than a scandal to stand up to the existing administration. But the struggle of our forefathers changed things and presented the rest of us, both born and unborn with a future. In their struggle through a warped political system called colonialism, they found the possibility of understanding each other and belief in a brother or sister that shares no blood tie to you, regardless of tribe. Our ancestors embraced hope for the future the moment that they fought for independence. They saw a Uganda shinning with great potential ruled by the children of their children and not by one of them. No matter how deep the despair is, hope always rises from it. You are light and there will be a time when that light shines bright over all of us.You see as children of this great country we were all blessed the moment we came into this world. The trouble is that fathers never say enough to their sons. Children are forced to fill in the blank spaces all on their own. But that is what makes growing up beautiful. As children we should make our own mistakes. We should take the country forward as best as we can, falling down and rising up along the way.One man cannot sit on the throne and claim to be the greatest mind with the vision forward. Nay, I should not only blame the one king seated on the throne, I should say all the old and once young men and women of Uganda should let the children take over. Just like their fathers fought to place them in positions to take the country forward, they too have fought long and hard. The time has come to let the children of the forefathers’ children take the country forward into the new age.It has taken centuries for mankind with constant struggles and successes for humans to say that they have evolved. The battle for independence started with a simple desire for a brighter future. A future where Ugandans had power to take the land known as the Pearl of Africa into new possibilities; a thing some people would call a god all on its own. But this power created some problems. This power led to individuals using it as a bargaining chip to stay in power. Instead of seeing the potential in each and every one Ugandan, some saw the potential in themselves and unearthed a hunger that sits deep inside of us. This hunger led to the world becoming a smaller place where power was centred in one person with the possibility of the future envisioned by the forefathers dead. The roles of master and servants changed. Leaders meant to use the power to bring the possibility on all Ugandans out used it to stay in power. In the end we had the likes of Milton Obote, Idi Amin and countless others who might not be in the history books who took on that power and hungered for more. It is something that I would like to call the Curse of Our Forefathers. Steady Progress. That is what they have touted it as. But move around this country. What is Steady Progress? In the eyes of many this is just the slow and steady decline back to the Stone Age. Yes, schools are built. Yes, roads exist. Yes, there has been security and development. But in reality these milestones are being placed on a pedestal. They talk like they are not affected. They talk as if all Ugandans are not their people. They need to see the future for all Ugandans. They should see the light of warm desire of all Ugandans to forget the petty feuds brought about by the divisions of political ideology. The problem with this light always glowing and fading comes from the fact that as Ugandans we always sweep the possibility of our future under the rug. The few times we pull off the rug, someone with that hunger for power uses it as a reason to start a war. However, the power that is the presidency is not meant for one man alone. That is our reality. It is not meant for one person that seeks to rule believing that others do not understand. With the world changing and ever evolving, with children being born each and every day, time comes and goes. But as it passes so does it leave behind those who had their chance. In this time when the world changes, is it so hard for those in power and cursed with the curse of our forefathers’ hunger for power, to believe that the time has come for the reins to be handed over to the children? The time has come for the older people to understand that as their children grow, they try with all their might. Children are not inhibited by experience. Children trust the possibility of growing up. The way their feel is not wrong. They try with all their might and have the chance to get out of the accursed hunger that dogs our fathers. If you are reading this open your eyes and usher in the new age of our country with goodwill in your hearts. Though we have our different faiths, there is another thing we can all believe in called possibility. We need to reclaim the world that our forefathers fought for, the world we desire from the moment we understand. That is my only desire as a young man growing up in this nation, but mine is just one desire in billions of desires on this planet. The world progresses with one tiny bit every second because a few fathers trust their dreams to someone they know, someone who is not a stranger…their children. They are that lucky. Hold on to your dreams, don’t give up and don’t become close minded. That is how dreams live on beyond fathers, and that is something that Ugandans have forgotten. The chance will come and we should not hesitate.Do not walk the same path as our fathers that have forgotten the true ideals that their fathers entrusted to them. You see the future that the old fathers that passed on left one belief that they had for our future. They saw the possibility in each Ugandan; themselves, their children and even us the unborn children of their children. The reality we live in now is not the future that our forefathers dreamed for us as they bled to have self-rule.Isn’t the future supposed to be a time that is different from the present; a Uganda that is better than the Uganda we have now? As the children of those who came before us we have inherited that particular dream for the future. But we have not just inherited that dream of the future, that faith in possibility; we have inherited a responsibility. If we accept the status quo as a fixed reality we will not achieve our responsibility.Even so, without a clear notion of how it will turn out, as a human being, a Ugandan, a young man in this ever changing world, I want to believe in the future of our country, in Ugandans and the possibilities that Ugandans possess to take over the world and make Uganda into a place where Steady Progress means progress that envelopes all of us.So, what is your desire from the bottom of your heart for this world?

The African Man

Dear reader,Thank you for sparing the time to look at this particular blog. I appreciate the time and effort that you take off to read my blog, although I am not the most reliable person in releasing these blogs. Nevertheless, thank you. I will not make a promise that I will be better and more consistent with my posts, but I can promise to try;Now off to my usual rant and rumbling. Today for a change I am going to start off with a poem, which will make sense at the end of the post; The African Man, Seen as powerful, calm and unrelenting. The African Man, Unwilling to change, devoted to his ways and honest. The African Man, Who is he? Why do you stereotype him? What reason do you have to make him out to be what he is not? I tell you, I tell you, The African Man, He is good, he is kind, and he is not quick to rubbish change. The African Man, He hates being called what he is not… What does this poem mean? For one, I have been in numerous conversations with various African women (friends and colleagues). Do you know what they all have in common? Sadly, it is the deluded conclusion that ‘all men are cheats. It is in their blood and DNA.’ That is what they say. Most times they have reserved and sad expressions when they are telling me this hogwash. Yes, ladies, I called this belief of yours hogwash. In fact, it is bull shit. Yes, I accept that you have classic examples of men with numerous wives. It is easy for you to pick out your friend’s friend’s man who was caught with two other girls. It is even easier to point to the numerous posh cars of well off, married or seriously committed men that line up outside universities, picking up young and naïve girls for some fun. All this is basing on my little old dusty country where I too have witnessed men at their worst. In Uganda, it is not hard to find a man with more than one woman, all of them bearing his seed. You just have to attend his funeral to find out how many children he really has. To make matters worse, this African society has since time in memorial engrained it on the minds of its male population that the more women and children you have, the more manly that you are. True that held water in the days past. True in some instances, more common than rare, it holds more water for young men who are making it in this world. But despite all of this, let me tell you. It is not all lost. Why should you ladies assume that all men are this way? Where you have examples of cheating lowlifes, I too have examples of men who would willingly accept to love the one woman that they are with. I have seen it done. Not to brag or anything, I am doing. Ladies, there are some men out there who do not take you for granted. Yes, you might be more than us, but these men will accept to stay with you because they, simply put, love you. I am tired of this whole notion that men are cheats and are meant to cheat. In the first place that might be why you will drive your man to cheat ladies. As men, we do not get into a relationship where we are serious to cheat on you.Cheating is a choice. It has always been. In Africa it was never looked at in that way, but that was then. Right now. Today. In this world that is full of mistrust and uncertainty, no wise man would willingly play with what he does not need when he has the best thing already at home. This is my humble appeal to women. Yes you say men are made to cheat. Yes the world has fashioned it that way. Yes you have your bloody examples. But…and this is a very BIG BUT, not all men are like all men. There is that handful of men that would rather die than cheat on you, if you are their lady or who knows, they might be more than a handful. There are men who would willingly love you and only you without sharing themselves with others. So stop saying ‘all men are cheats and it is in their DNA.’We are not. Until the next time, thank you,I remain your dream chasing geek.

Jealousy

Hello world, some might say that I have taken the longest time possible to come and share my thoughts about the world with you, and for that, I do apologise with the sincerest heart that I can muster.Anyway, I have put a lot of thought into this one…today I am talking about jealousy…and not jealousy in the one form everyone associates to it. I am talking about the broad picture that is jealousy. The one that makes you hate someone without knowing it, or even detest someone for the sole reason of his or her existence. What is jealousy?Should I use the dictionary…I don’t know. However, according to the dictionary, jealousy is a word that typically refers to the thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, concern, anxiety over an anticipated loss or status of something of great personal value. In short jealousy is that feeling you get when you do not want to lose something or in ‘most cases’ someone.Anyhow, I was in a conversation with someone about this particular feeling, and believe me, we somehow do not agree on the whole principle of jealousy. Yes, cast your stones and get out your pitchforks, but after you reach the end of this particular post. This person strongly believes that whereas jealousy is good, it does more harm than good (writing this statement reminds me of my literature examination papers in high school) Back to the topic at hand. Yes, jealousy is bad. I mean any human being out there has experienced it. You are not a bloody robot so there is no way that you who is reading this has not experienced it. Jealousy makes you a mean person. It makes you over protective and we all know what happens to things that are over protected…in most cases they are the biggest disappointments any man, woman or child will ever see.On a whole, I think jealousy is good. In all its dark and furious glory, jealousy helps to build that which you hold close. Let me look at it from the most obvious angle…relationships (left, right and centre), both emotional and intimate, as well as platonic ones. Think about it. You would not cultivate what you have in any form. I mean as a woman or man, you would not treat your partner as special if you did not get jealous. You would not make your friend feel like you’re the only real friend in the world if you were not jealous. And…The biggest thing that I can say is that it would not really lead you to greater heights if you did not get jealous. Some people make it in this world because they are jealous of some Mary, Jane, Alice, Tom, Dick or Harry. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo the world soccer star, although he will deny it. He is jealous of Messi and to be frank the reverse is true. The result of their jealousy, is some out of this world consistency from both men in the world of soccer.Look at Apple and Samsung. Look at Russia and USALook at Play Station and X BoxLook at your relationship (if you are in a committed and happy one)Look at religions (this might get me in trouble but think about it)All of them in some form or another are cultivated by jealousy. Jealousy is a bad thing, but if you are reading this, trust me, jealousy is one of the necessary evils of this world. Whatever you want to believe, if you are a human being, there is no denying that you have felt that pang in your soul. Whether it is towards a loved one, business partner or even just the stranger on the road, you have felt it.So, think about it my friends, Think about being jealous and do not be discouraged by its fear. Use its fear to fire you because jealousy leads to anger and anger is one of the things I know that burns the brightest when making a man or woman achieve greatness. But my anger rant will be for another day.Until the next time, my friends, I will always remain the dream chasing nerd…PS:Most people see me as evil,Others think I am the worst,But few understand,I mean no harm,I mean no trouble,In my own way, I am here to help,Not to make you weak,But to make you fight for what you hold dear…Do not look at me as bad if you want to remain sane,Because many have turned to darkness, just by being in my presence,For I am what we all are and what we all do not want to be…

The Gift

Can I boldly say that I am livid? First off, why in God’s name, ah ah…let me change that to why the fuck are you letting other people cloud your own judgment? I mean, the fuck is wrong with people? I know that it is human nature to listen to others and sometimes let them influence what you think about something. But really…when it comes to gifts, what is wrong with people? Fine, compare and contrast, but I believe that the bigger picture is the damn thought that counts. You must be able to see past what all the other people see on the surface. Most people see a bad thing or a good thing, depending on their own values. To me, yes to me, I prefer the thought. If you give me a pen from the bottom of your heart and someone else gives me a mansion, without true meaning, of course I will take both and be bloody grateful, but if I am honest, I know who I would rather give a gift, the person of the pen. That is why, I am livid today. This message is directed to some people built in a specific cantankerous mould as I would like to put it. So recently, I have a friend, who gifted someone a book on a special day. Books are very sentimental in my opinion. This friend had actually put it in his head that the specific book(I will tell you the title a few sentences away) would make an interesting read for someone who has an open mind.Anyway, the gift was Fifty Shades Freed by E. L. James. Yes, I know what you might be thinking…B, D, fucking S, M. Well let me be honest. I have read the books, watched this year’s Valentine’s Day blockbuster, and my assessment remains the same. Fifty Shades of Grey has no major bad points aside from what the feminists and ultra conservative think.Yes, pornography. But the porn pages are actually fewer than some of the candid and obvious porn in the Mills and Boons that my sister and mother used to read with so much attention in the earlier years. Misogyny, porno shit and all the likes are the bad things about this book, but if I am honest, that is where I stop with the bad things. E. L. James is actually a god writer and she did have plot in her Fifty Shades. Mind you, I am not defending all the negative shit about this book. I am just being honest; movingly honest. If you read books, not basing on what others say, just basing on your own curiosity and love of books, then you can agree with me that Fifty Shades is not a bad book; definitely, not a book for a literature class, but who knows, we did the Song of Lawino in my S.2 (Ugandans you know what I am talking about)So when my friend told me about the reaction of the person who received his book as a loving gift, I was shocked. Might I add that this resentment towards his gift came a full two weeks after receipt of the book and the person being more than halfway into the bloody book. That got me thinking, what the hell? What is wrong with people? Why the fuck would you read the book all that way then turn round against it? Come on, just let it go as soon as you receive it. This person waited for others to call it porn, even after they had read the damn book, before they called out the young man who gave them the gift. So, I will tell you what I told him. Fuck gifting people who will never appreciate it. Give the gifts to people who will value the thought more than the item.Until next time,I remain your dream chasing nerd…
