The Dark Prism: A Father's Dream is live!

I officially suck at updating my blog, since it's been months, but the good news is that during that time I was writing the first of a two-part prequel to The Broken Prism series. Part 1, A Father's Dream, is now up on Amazon.com so go and check it out!

Prequel!

If you've been following me on Facebook, Twitter, etc., this probably isn't brand new information, but I am currently working on the prequel to The Broken Prism series! The prequel (which will probably split into two parts depending on the length) occurs before Hayden's time, instead following his father, the Dark Prism himself--though at the time he is still Aleric Frost.

So if you liked the series and want to know more about how the Dark Prism came to be, then you have something else to look forward to :D I also get a lot of requests for more backstory on characters who aren't Hayden, so this should satisfy a lot of that as well. My current goal is to put out part 1 in the Christmas-ish time frame, but it's too soon to say whether that's attainable or not right now, so I'll keep you posted.

As always, if you want more frequent updates, you can find me on Goodreads, Facebook, or Twitter (@VMStclair), as well as post questions to me or start discussions about any of my works.

The Frost Prisms

Yes, it's May, and yes, I haven't updated this blog since March...but in all fairness, I have been updating my Goodreads and Facebook pages much more regularly, so for people who are really interested in updates you should check out those resources :D

I'm also aware that I'm coming uncomfortably close to my self-imposed June goal for getting out the final installment in The Broken Prism series. Fortunately I think this is still possible, assuming no major roadblocks pop up between now and the end of June. I'm almost done writing it...maybe a few more chapters, and so far it is longer than both The Schism and Forest of Illusions, which should make fans of the series happy :D

Also, I've named it! If you didn't pay attention to the title of this post, Book 5 will be titled The Frost Prisms. I've also got the kindle cover for it mostly done, so after I'm finished writing it and editing the snot out of it, there shouldn't be much delay in making it go live.

Then I can begin work on my next series...sigh.

March Updates

I realized it's been a while since I last posted to the blog, so it seemed time to give an update. I always feel weird posting to my blog when most of the update just boils down to the fact that I'm working on the next book. So far it is shaping up to be longer than any of the previous books in The Broken Prism series, which I guess is appropriate since it is the grand finale. Hopefully that's good news to fans of the series, who will have more to read when the last installment of the series debuts.

In related news, Cave of Nightmares will soon be available in paperback! I'm excited to see The Broken Prism series finally becoming available in paperback, especially since I've had many requests for tangible copies of it from fans :D

I'm also putting together my ideas for my next book series, and actually I'm pretty far along in developing my storylines and characters and such, which is always an exciting time for me because it's the start of something new (though it's also a nerve-wracking time because I always worry that my writing won't do my idea justice until I see it completed).

As always, for more frequent updates, check out my Facebook page, where you can also post questions to me. I also answer questions on Goodreads, as long as they aren't things like, "How does the last book in TBP end?"

Now everyone wants my head...

I know, I know, everyone hates cliffhangers. I knew when I was writing it that I'd have to flee the country and change my name to avoid the hordes of angry fans wielding pitch forks. Yet I did it anyway, and there's a simple reason why. Back when I conceived of The Broken Prism series, I planned the natural breaking points in all 5 books, and that was how I envisioned The Schism ending since way back when. I was actually really happy to finally get to write it and get it out there at last!

So to answer the question people are now demanding of me...book 5. The final book in The Broken Prism series. I started writing it before I even published The Schism, over the Christmas holidays--I'm about three chapters in right now. I typically try to plan for a release date every 6 months or so, which would be sometime in June, given that I released The Schism on Christmas. However, since it's still early days, I won't commit to a date just yet, especially as things are getting busier at my day job and motherhood never takes a break. But never fear, I don't intend to leave the series unfinished, so I'll find time to write and get this thing out in some kind of reasonable time frame! Then I just have to think of my next series concept...*shudder*

Anyway, as you know by now, you can ask me questions either on Goodreads, or Facebook, where you'll also find more frequent updates. I typically answer questions the same day I get them, as long as it's not something with spoilers, like, "What happens in book 5?" And as always, thanks to all the fans and the readers who have helped make the beginning of 2015 great for me!

Christmas Updates

So I got The Schism uploaded for pre-order yesterday, and Amazon is doing all its authentification stuff and copyright-checking, and then it will be available! They're estimating sometime tomorrow they should be done, so keep an eye out for it and as soon as they notify me it's online I will post an update.

In other news, for people who have been asking about when Rise of Chaos (book 2 in The Chronicles of Icthema) will be available in paperback, the answer is...soon! I just received the proof copy to review, and there are a few minor changes that need to be made (the font is ridiculously big for some reason right now), but then it will be out for purchase as well!

Release Plans for the Schism

I promised in my last post that I would try and give another November update as my planned release date draws nearer, so here it is. So far I'm about 75% through the writing, so I still hope to be on track for a Christmas release date. In early December I'll throw together a cover and put The Schism up for pre-order on Amazon, once I'm ready to commit to the date for sure.

It's a little weird writing this part of the series, since I've had it in my head for several years now. Even though I knew I was working towards the final two books, it feels strange when I finally made it. Now I have to worry about doing the story justice, since things always look more epic in my head then when I attempt to describe them on paper, but I guess that's the whole challenge of being an author.

Anyway, for more on-the-spot updates feel free to check out the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/V-St-Clair-Book-Series-Official-Site/263131693757407

Or the Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6551653.V_St_Clair

And as usual, please help spread the word about the series (or any of my books, really) so that someday I can quit my day job and write for a living!

The Schism

So as a Halloween treat, for those of you who read this blog but haven't become a fan of the official facebook page--by the way, if you want more frequent updates and the ability to ask questions and the like, I recommend checking out facebook--the title of book IV in The Broken Prism series is The Schism. A lot of you probably guessed by the ending of Forest of Illusions that the Schisms might be making an appearance in book 4, and you would be correct!

I'm a tad over halfway done with The Schism right now, and still trying to meet my self-proclaimed deadline of Christmas for the release. Honestly, I've been wanting to write book 4 since I conceptualized the five-part series, because a lot of the overall story arc (surprise--there actually is an overriding story arc for the series!) becomes apparent in this book. It's always nice to finally get to write something I've had stuck in my head for two years, now that I'm finally getting close to the final book in the series. It's always a bittersweet thing for me to finally get to the end of something, because A) I've been working on it for years and it's hard to imagine being done with it, and B) It means I have to think of a new book/series plot, which is always daunting.

I'll try to update my blog more as November progresses and we move closer to the release. In the meantime, check out the facebook page and help spread the word about any books you liked so I can afford to keep it up!

October Already???

I just realized it's been a while since I updated my blog. The good news is it's because I've been writing instead :D But also busy with a baby. Honestly, I would probably post a lot more, but I never know what to say when I'm between books because posting "Yep, still writing..." every few days feels awkward to me. But yes, book 4 progress continues in The Broken Prism series! I'm about a third of the way through it now, and I've recently taken to writing during my lunch breaks at work to try and speed things up since I have so little time at home. It's kind of annoying only getting to write for 30 min at a time, but I'm getting through it and that's what matters :D

In other news, the second book in The Chronicles of Icthema is soon to be released in paperback! I know it took an unnatural amount of time between books, but I have to wait for my illustrator to finish the cover and then the entire publishing process, so, yeah, basically it takes a while.

I'll try to do more updates in November as I get closer to finishing Book 4!
