Draakensky Takes the Gold at The BookFest Book Awards, First Place in Gothic Fiction
I am thrilled to announce that Draakensky, A Supernatural Tale of Magick and Romance wins First Place in Gothic Fiction at The BookFest Awards for 2025.
The BookFest Awards honor authors who create outstanding works of fiction and nonfiction. All submissions go through three vettings by judges, professional experts in their fields.
My thanks and gratitude to The BookFest for this recognition for Draakensky. Gothic suspense and Gothic thrillers are a literary category that demands an introspection of the characters, convincing powers of supernatural elements, and a haunting pace that draws the readers into a shadowy world.
Because Gothic can cross over many genres, it pushes the boundaries of fiction and can transgress into new realms of the imagination.
Draakensky Windmill Estate is located in Bedford, New York, but once you open the book, you enter a world of magickal realism.
Thank you to all my readers here!
Draakensky was also awarded a Readers' Choice Award as a Finalist, 2024.

Draakensky, A Supernatural Tale of Magick and Romance, Update
Dear Readers, I am the author of Draakensky, A Supernatural Tale of Magick and Romance. I spent nearly 5 years writing and researching this Gothic romantic thriller. You will find the story full of Gothic intrigue, ghostly mysteries, psychological suspense, and a lush romantic adventure. The story has elements of fantasy because so much of the story hinges on magick and the power of magickal realms on the Draakensky Windmill Estate. U.S. Review of Books called Draakensky, "A sturdy, old-fashioned Gothic thriller, thoroughly charming in its atmosphere and invention and anchored by a fully dimensional heroine in the vein of Mrs. de Winter or Jane Eyre."
Come meet sketch artist Charlotte Knight as she confronts witchcraft, dark magick, and the Otherworld entities on Draakensky Windmill Estate in Bedford, New York.
This book is considered "quiet horror" by most standards and is more aptly described as a supernatural mystery because of its eerie atmospheric setting, paranormal activity, psychological tension, and romantic intrigue. I hope you enjoy your adventure to the Draakensky Windmill Estate as much as I loved writing the story. As for many writers, entering the imaginal realm of fiction is a privilege and honor, and I thank all my readers who take the fictional journey with me.
In the words of poet Rainer Maria Rilke, “Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
