The wonderful thing about historical fiction for a writer is that the timeline and the background events are right there. All we need to do then is to hang the story upon the skeleton already worked out.
Not so easy as it sounds, of course.
The way I write is to decide specifically on the characters, generally on the story, and then fit them into the historical box as I go.
