Read an E-Book Week 2015

Dear Readers,

It's been a while, I know. I just popped in to announce SMASHWORDS is hosting a ONE week MEGA e-book sale (March 1-7). If you haven't had the chance to read my debut SO DOWN I FALL, now is your chance!

As for the other titles in the BROKEN FINS series, I do hope to finish them one day, but no news on that front just yet. I'll keep you posted, though.

Cheers,
Alex

Book News!

Dear Readers,

The short story BROKEN FINS is now out of print. The story isn't gone forever; it will be included in a new novella: FALLING SLOWLY: ADAM'S STORY (coming 2014).

Why the change? I received lots of e-mails from fans who felt the tale was too short, so I decided to revamp it. FALLING SLOWLY: ADAM'S STORY (BROKEN FINS, 1.5) will take place where SO DOWN I FALL (BROKEN FINS, 1) left off. And there are still two more books to come: DOWN TO A SUNLESS SEA and UPSIDE DOWN UNDERWATER (release dates to be announced).

Cheers!
Alex

Birth of a Mermaid

Dear Readers,

I had an opportunity to attend an outdoor art show where I met photography artist Reenie Marx. I was especially captivated by her photograph "Birth of a Mermaid." I can clearly see the mermaid's breasts and navel as she rises from the ocean.

This phenomena is called pareidolia (like when you see a face in the clouds).

It's amazing how we see the unbelievable in nature!

Cheers,
Alex

Author Update

Dear Readers,

It's been a while since I last posted anything. Sorry about that. I'm in the midst of a career change, hence my absence.

In the meantime, I've completely revamped the cover for SO DOWN I FALL. I've also received a lot of e-mails about the sequel: DOWN TO A SUNLESS SEA. As I mentioned above, my career change has kept me busy and that means less time for my writing. The release date for the next installment in the series is therefore unknown. I will post any news as soon as I have it.

Thanks for your patience!

Cheers,
Alex

My New Favorite Song

Dear Readers,

Have you heard the new single from Serena Ryder "What I Wouldn't Do"? Such an amazing sound!! It gives me goose bumps. Also, I think it's the perfect anthem for SO DOWN I FALL.

Cheers,
Alex

Mermaid Documentary

Dear Readers,

While doing research for another project on the Animal Planet website, I came across a sci-fi "documentary" called MERMAIDS: THE BODY FOUND. It talks about mermaid folklore and digitally creates what hominids would have looked like if a segment of our ancestors had evolved in the sea as "aquatic apes". Fun!

Cheers,
Alex

Auction Time ... Sold!

Dear Readers,

Every year in May, author Brenda Novak hosts an on-line auction filled with donated, one-of-a-kind goodies for readers, authors, and collectors. There are lots of autographed books (like my young adult debut SO DOWN I FALL), editor and agent critques for the unpublished and published alike, sports memrobilia, fantastic getawys, lunch dates with your favorite authors, and much more!

All proceeds go toward research to find a cure for diabetes. It's a great cause and I hope you'll register to bid.

The auction ends May 31, 2013.

Cheers,
Alex

Book Soundtrack

Dear Readers,

As much as I love music, I can't write to it. I know some authors put on a song that represents their book or character and listen to it over and over again while writing. Hats of to you! That would drive me nuts.

Still, I am inspired by sound. It really captures a mood or a character's personality, even struggle. And so, while I personally prefer writing in total silence (or, at the most, white noise in the background), I think it's interesting to post what songs I feel best capture my debut young adult novel, SO DOWN I FALL. Check out the track on my website.

What do you think of the tunes? Do you agree with my picks? Are there any other songs you think I should add?

Let me know. I just might add them to the soundtrack for everyone else to enjoy.

Cheers,
Alex

Virtual Author Book Reading

Dear Readers,

There's a new wave of promotional material out there, namely virtual author book readings, where authors post clips of themselves reading segments of their work. Here's an example.

I think there's lots of great opportunities here for readers and authors to interact, especially if you don't live near the author and can't attend live readings.

Before I venture into this new territory myself, I'd love your feedback. Do you enjoy watching virtual book readings? Do you like hearing the characters come to life as the author imagined them? Or do you prefer to create your own character "voice" in your head?

Post your thoughts here.

Cheers,
Alex
