Born in Brooklyn and raised in Roslyn, New York, Helene has been teaching for over 50 years and was the founder and director of a private school for dyslexic students in Bridgehampton, New York. She holds advanced degrees from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dowling College, and Harvard University. Helene has penned two award-winning feature screenplays: The Rebels Roar and Behind the Hedges, and has published two coming-of-age, young adult novels: The Journey of Hannah Woods and Stoked-1969. In 2000, she was nominated for The Woman of Distinction Award by Senator Kenneth LaValle for her environmental activism.
