A Most Apocalyptic Christmas

Why not get into the real Christmas spirit with a post-apocalyptic action story? My new novella, A Most Apocalyptic Christmas, is a fast, frantic and violent ride through the Court of Chrimbo, a wasteland community that’s found all the wrong ways to embrace the holiday season.

Available now on Kindle and for free to members of my mailing list, it features fantastic cover art from Bob Wright (illustrator of The English Tenses and the wonderful Gun City Bohemian cover).

On the night before Christmas, mercenary Scullion’s ride home is ambushed halfway between the last surviving cities in America. Concerned only with getting drunk for the holiday, his attempts to abandon his fellow passengers to bandits lead him on a collision course with a barbaric community who have utterly distorted the seasonal spirit. This is one madcap night he cannot survive alone, challenging his perceptions of the meaning of Christmas.

A Most Apocalyptic Christmas is a near-future dystopian novella, set in a war-ravaged land where chaotic city states are all that are left of once powerful countries. Born fighters like the thug Scullion are the predominant survivors in this desolate world devoid of resources, comforts and hope.

This Faergrowe Free State novella takes place in the same world of the screenplay "The Faergrowe Principle".

Read this novella free by visiting my website, or get it on Kindle for next to nothing!

My new urban fantasy novel - Gun City Bohemian

A long time coming, I've finally published my urban fantasy, Gun City Bohemian, and am so happy to see it's already received a few good reviews on Amazon. This was always a very dear book for me, as the time in which I wrote it flows out of the pages, capturing what it was like to be a carefree student. Albeit the romance, the horror, the fantasy and all out craziness that the book descends into aren't quite true to what I experienced studying for a degree.

Check it out if you want something fun and a little different - to my mind one of my most easy-to-read and enjoyable pieces of work!

Upcoming giveaway...

Here's a bit of fun for all my followers, particularly anyone who's interested in the make-up of the English language. From the end of this week until Halloween, I'll be running a giveaway so everyone has a chance to get their hands on a copy of "The English Tenses Practical Grammar Guide" absolutely free.

Get it to brush up on your tenses if you're learning, to delve into the depths of understanding if you're teaching, or just to show people down the pub exactly how much you know about English otherwise.

Best of luck to all who get involved!

Understanding the English Tenses

I'm proud to announce the release of my new book, "The English Tenses Practical Grammar Guide", available from today in the Kindle store. It's exclusively available there for now, but a print version is soon to follow.

"The English Tenses" is a detailed study of how each tense is formed in English, and what these different forms are. Aimed at foreign learners of the language, it is still a readable and interesting narrative for any enthusiast - including fellow teachers, and general grammar connoisseurs. Taking a flexible, and friendly, approach to grammar, the book explains and discusses rules, patterns and exceptions, treading a neutral and adaptive ground rather than a proscriptive approach.

Or so I like to think. Please check it out and share it if you find this information useful!

Book reviews on my site:

For anyone who's interested I've got a bunch of reviews on my personal site about some of my favourite books. Mostly they're there instead of here because I wrote them relating to what the books meant to me as a writer. At least that was the idea to begin with, who knows what you'll find there.

Anyway I've just uploaded one about Keep the Aspidistra Flying, by George Orwell:
Read it here.

Wixon's Day review!

Wixon's Day has received its first Amazon review, an honest account given by a friend who was supposed to help proof it. He didn't, and gave the book away rather than return it to me. Such is life.

It's an entertaining review in itself, I think! Read it here.
