An interest in the education and welfare of children lead me to a BA degree in Early Childhood Education from UNC at Chapel Hill and a Masters in the same from Western Carolina University at Cullowhee, NC.
I was fascinated by how children are inspired to learn, and that became the focus of my master's thesis. Other interests, such as nature, rock-hounding, and drawing have influenced my story creation. Some of my early experiences with nature are the foundation of the tales, and also experiences as an adult have made me compelled to share my feelings about nature in a way that I hope will be inspiring to children and their families. ...more

I'm editing the story and making sure there is plenty of depth, conflict, interesting writing, etc. Also, I have the extra work of being the illustrator which takes just as long as the writing does, but I love it.
I'm taking an online art course for children's book illustrators which is helping me with composition, color, perspective, etc.
It's all very challenging - but that's what makes it fun for me.(less)

Before that idea, I always felt I had a book inside me, but I was not able to realize what it was. I could write little stories, but not anything like a book.
One day when I was trying to help my friend, Tommy, think of a name for his jewelry business, the name Gemstone Elves popped into my mind. I realized right away that was for me, and I started thinking of names for the characters. It was non-stop after that - I wrote the first draft in about five months. Now I have written three books about the Elves. Only the first one has been published so far.
Tommy's jewelry business became known as Magickal Dragon. (less)
