It is his uncertainty and the potential darkness within him that drives the book. Moreover, as the narrator of his own story, everything we know, and don't know, about what takes place comes from Abel. His search for the most important woman in his life is at the heart of the book, both in terms of its lighter moments and its darker ones.(less)

Hi. Thanks for asking.

As a reader, I choose books according to the mood I’m in, what’s available on my bookshelf or in my local bookshop, whether I know or like the author’s work and whether the back cover blurb makes the book sound interesting. What I’m currently writing may also colour my choice of reading material.

As a writer, I choose what I write according to what’s going on in my head and what idea tells me it needs writing. Usually, it also tells me if it needs to be a poem, a short story or my next novel. If it doesn’t, I can waste a lot of time trying to work it out for myself.

Ten Years of Witchlight

So, last week saw the tenth anniversary of Witchlight, as you may have gathered if you've visited my website, Facebook page or BlueSky stream recently ( I may have been a bit of an over-sharer). I also managed a photoblog post and a bit a celebratory cake (photographic, of course) https://wouldbephotography.blogspot.c...

The cake post is linked to a previous photoblog post I made with photos of the Read more of this blog post »

“What you cannot lay to rest
Must therefore be laid aside”
J.S. Watts, Cats and Other Myths

J.S. Watts, A Darker Moon

“Holly girl, you are all too human, I can assure you. Prickly and awkward and human, because that's what witches are - human, that is, not necessarily the prickly and annoying bit. That's just you.”

J.S. Watts Technically, M.R. James Collected Ghost Stories is a re-read, as I have read it many years ago, but it is the monthly read for the Literary Horror Group and I can never resist the opportunity to pick up up a good book again.
