PEDRO TAMEN nasceu a 1 de Dezembro de 1934, em Lisboa.
Licenciado em Direito pela Universidade de Lisboa, foi director da Editora Moraes e administrador da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, e co-dirigiu as revistas Anteu e Flama. Leccionou no ensino secundário, fez crítica literária no semanário Expresso e foi ainda presidente do PEN Clube Português, entre 1987 e 1990.
Traduziu Imitação de Cristo, dos Fioretti de S. Francisco, Cantos de Maldoror, de Breton, e ainda outras obras de autores como Sartre, Foucault, Camilo José Cela, Georges Bataille, Georges Pérec, Flaubert e Gabriel García Márquez. Em 1990 obteve o Grande Prémio da Tradução.
