Of course, often this becomes more self-distraction, as I meander through the Internet, read various books I have going, take a walk, play music, and so fortth. Then there's always the refrigerator and I like to cook. At least I can create something reliably in the kitchen and then, better yet, eat it! I remind myself of what Alice Weaver Flaherty said in "The Midnight Disease," that only a writer can have writer's block. That would make it a good thing. (less)

Next best thing, when one of my new books arrives fresh from the printer and I can pick it up and open it anywhere. Okay, it doesn't make it more real than if it's an ebook or even i my head -- metaphysically, that is -- but it sure feels good.(less)

“Pieter Breugel the Elder's engraving, The Battle of Money Bags and Strong Boxes depicts obsessive, destructive pernicious human greed. Prints of it by Volcxken Diercx's Four Winds Press in Antwerp were among Ophelia's favorites when she was the widow Diercx's house guest.”
Umberto Tosi, Ophelia Rising: "...we know what we are, but know not what we may be"

“Holy mother on a fork! It’s Prince Hamlet’s fair maiden!”
Umberto Tosi, Ophelia Rising: "...we know what we are, but know not what we may be"

“Be as the birds” He nodded to his pigeon crates. “Finding grace in how God made you, one with this world and the next. The pigeon does not pine to be a lark, or a cat, or a fish.”
Umberto Tosi, Ophelia Rising: "...we know what we are, but know not what we may be"

“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”
Theodore Parker

“Money is like manure; it's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow.”
Thornton Wilder, The Matchmaker

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ”
William Shakespeare, Hamlet

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”
John Milton, Paradise Lost

“I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”
