I'm a librarian in Williamsburg, Virginia, where I specialize in readers' advisory and collection development. Lately, I've come to think of myself simply as a "bookman." It's a way of life.

I also write about books. My first book, Read On... Fantasy Fiction, came out in 2007, and my second, Fellowship in a Ring, a handbook for science fiction and fantasy book groups arrived in late 2009. I briefly had a monthly column, "Every Book Its Reader," for Booklist magazine.

I read a variety of fantasy and science fiction, nonfiction (especially history), historical fiction, mysteries, and literary fiction. I like theater, travel, movies, and puzzles in my spare time.

King's short fiction remains strong. I think I enjoyed the longer works the best.

"Two Talented Bastids" is a fun bit of metafiction, and good use of King's classic New England setting.

My favorite was "Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream", a warning about what

The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter

Pinter taps into the horrors of an authoritarian state that doesn't need reasons, or even a clearly stated political position of its own to terrorize a citizen. What one trusts in the narration is up for grabs, but that's kind of the point.

The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson

OK, it's not as fun and varied as his earliest work like The Devil in the White City, but Larson still has the knack for making historical events read well. It's painful to see all of that Southern "honor" pave the way to such a horrible war, but Lar ...more

I enjoyed this. Wilder writes a fun farce with women running circles around men who think they are in control. (Although why Dolly would be interested in Horace is another question. Money isn't everything, even if you can easily manipulate the person ...more

This older play has something elusive that theaters are always looking for: good parts for women over 50 (and a couple of men too, for that matter).

Unfortunately, it starts well, but then ends rather abruptly in a way that doesn't fulfill early prom

Tori Hey Neil! Maine is great. Quiet and uneventful enough to force me to focus. Not so quiet that I'm turning into a Stephen King character, although I've seen enough odd things to know where he gets the ideas for his stories.

I'm wanting to be performing again too. Keeping my eyes open for things to do this year. Let me know how you like Bedroom Farce. Is it in at the library yet and available to the public?
