Zelda
First start with a pitcher of Orange Blossom Cocktails: 10T oj 10 T Grand marnier, 10 T Absolute Mandarian, 2 1/2 tsp. orange flower water and 5 cups prosecco. Then sit back in your favorite string of pearls and shift dress, kick of your mules and enjoy slipping back to the 1920s with a heart-felt Zelda telling her side of the story. Sad yet infused (like our cocktails) with the scents of Magnolia blossoms from Montgomery, the sound of jazz from the New York speakeasies and the lights of Paris. This book is a delight.
in the Garden of Beasts
Pour a Berlin Blitz: 2 oz gin, splash of Chambord, splash of prosecco, shake with ice, strain and garnish with a twist then sink into Larson's compelling yet easy to grasp history of Ambassador William Dodd's story of his years in Berlin as Hitler stole power. Larson goes into great detail attempting to explain how Germany - and the rest of the country - let the Nazis brainwash an entire people. Would have loved the story to stay more with his fun-loving, naieve daughter Martha and her love affairs with Germans, Russians and Americans. Her story is the more flamboyant. I enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone who wants a "light" rendering of one families awakening to the horrors of Hitler.
Paris
As always keeping this light - with no plot giveaways. After reading Edward Rutherfurd's gorgeous Paris, I've ordered all his books. So clearly I've become a fan. I recommend a sassy champagne cocktail with this thick - worth it Paris bio.

20 ml lemon juice and a dash of lime
simple syrup to taste
the rest champagne
Will make this well-woven multi-generational book worth the trip. You'll feel as if you've gotten a healthy dose of French history without the aftertaste.

EVERY DAY BY THE SUN
Niece Dean Faulkner Wells' book about her Uncle is "light" on Faulkner history deep on southern charm and nostalgia. The author doesn't delve too deeply into moments of darkness in the genius Faulkner's life. Still it is entertaining and a fast read. Pull up a Classic:
