Professional Clinical Counselor Book Review

I am deeply honored—family ties aside—that my cousin is recommending my book to her clients as part of their healing journey. As someone who walks alongside others in their most vulnerable moments, her belief in this story speaks volumes. This isn’t just a memoir—it’s a testament to resilience, faith, and the lifelong journey of healing from trauma.
This book was written for those who are searching—for understanding, for hope, for proof that their past does not have to define their future. Trauma is complex. It doesn’t simply fade away with time. It lingers, it reshapes, it challenges every part of who you are. But healing is possible. Growth is possible. And most importantly—you are not destined to remain a victim of what you’ve been through.
Through raw storytelling and honest reflection, this memoir dives into childhood trauma, survival, identity, and the process of reclaiming your life. It’s for readers navigating trauma recovery, those working through emotional healing, and anyone seeking inspiration through real-life stories of perseverance and faith.
If you’ve ever felt broken, lost, or unsure of how to move forward—this story was written with you in mind. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is strength within you waiting to rise.

Spring 2026 The Bookfest Awards

Some exciting news to share this Monday—my memoir placed **first in two categories** this weekend at The BookFest Awards, and my heart is overflowing.
I want to give the deepest, most heartfelt thank you to Laura and Geo Villegas for capturing the soul of this story through the front cover, and to Scott Ryan for bringing it all together with such intentional design. You didn’t just create a cover—you brought a vision to life. This award for First Place Artistic & Technical – Book Cover – Photography belongs to you as much as it does to me. Thank you for your care, your precision, and the magic you poured into every detail.
To receive First Place in Nonfiction – Religion – Christianity is an honor that humbles me beyond words. I can’t help but think of my Mommie… what this moment would mean to her. And I hear my Grandma Combs’ words echoing in my spirit: *“God has a plan for you, even when you can’t see it or understand it. We only have one life it will soon be past, and only what’s done for Christ will last.”*I am far from perfect, and I don’t pretend to be—but I hold tightly to faith. I believe with everything in me that the things we walk through are never wasted. There is purpose in the pain, and we are called to use our stories to help someone else find their way through.
I am truly humbled and honored to receive these awards. This journey was never meant to be walked alone. To my inner circle—my family—thank you for holding me up, for believing in me, and for loving me through every chapter.Daddy, thank you for keeping me grounded.Mommie, thank you for loving me from afar. This one… this one is for you.

Review That Went To My Heart

I have to share this because it shook something deep in me…
My college roommate—someone I lived life alongside, laughed with, shared space with—started reading my book. Halfway through, she stopped and sent me this:
“I’m on chapter 5… every nerve in my body is tense. My heart is aching and I can’t put it down. I hate that I lived with you and never knew the pain you endured. I want to hug you so tight right now… I can almost feel the weight you’ve carried all these years leaving your soul. This had to be so healing. I’ll keep reading… I just had to stop and tell you—my heart is hurting for that little girl. Sending you so much love and healing prayers.”
I felt every word of that.
And it made me realize something we don’t talk about enough…
You can share a home, a classroom, a team, a life with someone—and still not know the battles they’re silently fighting. Some people carry their pain quietly. Some learn how to function, smile, achieve… while breaking inside. Some find a way out—and some are still trying to.
We have to do better at seeing people.
At being aware.
At holding each other accountable, yes—but also leading with compassion, with softness, with care.
Because you never know when the person next to you is carrying a story that could break your heart… or inspire your soul.
When she finished the book, she left a review… and I cried. Not because of the pain—but because the purpose landed.
That’s why I wrote this.
To reach the ones who feel unseen.
To give a voice to the little girl who didn’t have one.
To remind you—you are not alone.
If you read it… I’d love to know what it stirs in you.And more importantly—how can I help you heal?#memoir #author #healingjourney #traumarecovery #youarenotalone #purpose #womenwhowrite #realstories

Looking Back - Reflect

Do you ever stop and look back and think, *wow… I’ve come a long way*? Not just in distance—but in strength, in growth, in who you’ve fought to become.Do you actually *feel* your accomplishments? Do you let them settle in your spirit, or do you rush past them, already chasing the next thing?
Pause.Celebrate yourself.
Whether your story is written for the world to read or quietly held in your heart, it matters. *You* matter. Every step, every setback, every moment you chose to keep going when it would’ve been easier to quit—that deserves recognition.
Because here’s the truth: no one will champion you the way you can. No one will believe in your calling, your purpose, your fire the way *you* can. And when you lock in—when you move with discipline, confidence, and unwavering belief—there is nothing out of reach.
So don’t shrink.
Don’t dim your light to make others comfortable.
Don’t let doubt rewrite what you know you’re capable of.
If you stumble, regroup.
If you lose focus, redefine.
If you get tired, remind yourself why you started. And then rise again—stronger, clearer, more determined. Because anything is possible… when you believe in you. #TuesdayThoughts #memoir

Graduation

There are moments in life that feel like quiet turning points—days that don’t just mark an ending, but gently open the door to who you are becoming. My high school graduation was one of those days, and when I look back, what stands out most is not the cap or the gown or even the diploma in my hand—but the presence of Grandma and Grandpa Garber.
They didn’t come from a world of formal education. Grandma, with her eighth-grade schooling, carried a kind of wisdom you couldn’t learn in a classroom. She never had a driver’s license, her world shaped by the rhythms of farm life—early mornings, hard work, and a deep understanding of responsibility and resilience. Grandpa, steady and quiet, lived those same values. Together, they built a life rooted in simplicity, sacrifice, and love.
And yet, they believed in something bigger for me.
They believed in education—not because they had experienced it themselves, but because they understood what it could make possible. They encouraged me in ways that were never loud or forceful, but constant and steady. “Be kind,” Grandma would say. “Make a difference where you can.” It wasn’t just about getting good grades; it was about becoming someone who mattered in the lives of others.
Seeing them there at my graduation meant everything. It felt like my achievement was theirs too—a bridge between generations, between what was and what could be. In many ways, that moment became part of the foundation of my journey, much like the themes I later reflected on in Angel on a Bridge—how the people who shape us often do so quietly, guiding us across unseen crossings in our lives.
Now, as my son stands just weeks away from his own graduation, I feel that same sense of reflection rising again. Time folds in on itself in the most tender way. I think about how important it is for his grandpa to be there, to witness this milestone—not just as a ceremony, but as a continuation of something much deeper. A legacy. A story still being written.
And I can’t help but think about how proud his grandma would be.
Proud not only of what he has accomplished, but of who he is becoming. Proud that the values she lived—kindness, perseverance, humility—are still moving forward through another generation. Proud that her quiet encouragement all those years ago continues to ripple outward in ways she may have never imagined.
Graduation is never just about one person. It is about every hand that guided, every voice that encouraged, every sacrifice made along the way. It is about bridges—those visible and invisible—that carry us from one chapter to the next.
And as I prepare to watch my son cross that stage, I will be thinking of them—Grandma and Grandpa Garber—grateful for the bridge they built for me, and hopeful for the one he is now stepping onto.

A Written Review

As you read my memoir, my deepest hope is that something inside these pages stirs your soul—to shine your light a little brighter, to take that step forward, and to cross whatever bridge is standing in front of you.If this story speaks to you, I ask you to share that impact. Leaving a review on Amazon or Goodreads isn’t just about the book—it’s about reaching the person who feels unseen, unheard, or alone, and helping them realize they’re not. Your words could be the very thing that gives someone else the courage to keep going.Every review, every message, every reflection reminds me why I had the courage to put these chapters of my life into the world. It makes the years of vulnerability, healing, and truth-telling more than worth it.I can’t wait to hear your thoughts, your takeaways, and the pieces that stayed with you after the final page of Angel on a Bridge. A review that touched by heart.
